Hey everyone,

I am super frustrated with my aptasia problem that is gettting rediculous.
I have tried burghias, aptasia x, joes juice, all to no avail.
I am now planning to pull out all of my zoas and lps and ad some sort of fish that can take care of the problem.

What fish would do my dirty work but will leave my SPS collection alone?

Thanks a ton for your help!

Andrew

What size tank?

There aren't many fish that I am aware of in the hobby trade that do eat aiptasia. Some butterfly fish, filefish, and puffers will eat them. Also peppermint shrimp (Lysmata wurdemanni) will if they are not over fed. It is hard to know which peppermint shrimp you are getting. The Lysmata rathbunae does not have an interest in eating the aiptasia.

Patience and persistence is the best course with eliminating them from your tank. Hitting them in the mouth with kalk paste is my preferred method of eliminating them. I make my kalk paste from Mrs. Waggs pickeling lime and ro/di water. Just don't over do it in any one session or you can affect your water chemistry with it.

For prevention, I carefully inspect new frags and kalk paste any that may be on a frag. I have also started using revive coral dip and have discovered that anemones do not like it. It irritated a couple of hitchhiking anemones (mini carpet and flower) that I did want to the point that they balled up and detached from the rock they were on. Thankfully after a few rinses in regular tank water they reattached and are doing ok.

+1

I put it in a needle and make the paste thick. then I shoot a bit directly into the center of them
