Which Flasher to get?!?!

Im going to get 3 juvi female flasher wrasses, but im not sure which one to get. Wanted to see what you guys thought

My bad, but either way they are listed the same as i posted them with the names. So it shouldnt be that rough.

I have a pair of McCoskers, I really like them but now I want blue flashers instead, I think it is because I moved by black ocelaris clowns to another tank and put a pair of true percs in the take with the mccoskers and there is a lot of orange going on in there. but you cannot go wrong whatever choice you make

I really like the Blue flasher because of the nice red coloration. No matter what wrasse you end up with make sure your tank is covered as they are all big time jumpers!!!!

I was thinking about the McCoskers as well, im going to be getting a pygmy angel fish and i figure they will look nice mixed with a flame angel or something.

I have a Blue and a McCosker's in a 75g tank ATM. The McCosker's ripped the lower jaw off and left a large scar behind the right eye of the Blue. They're the same size, added at the same time.

The blue is still healthy, eats as well as all the other fish, and has lived with no real semblance of a mouth for nearly 3 months now. So while I have done it, no, I would not recommend it... based on my own experience, of course. If I could catch the blue to remove it, I likely would.


Also to note, I found the McCosker's to be much more attractive, but when a flasher is more dominate it is also more colorful so I imagine that is a big part. They discolor significantly if they feel out-gunned.

funny yo mention this, i had blue and red tails together, and then one day one of my red tails had no botttom jaw, ended up dieing tho, i didnt even think it was from aggression as i never witnessed any.

thanks for the reply chase, thats very good to know...now heres another noob question...are they sequential hermaphrodits like clowns and would the presense of a female keep their colors bright or would they need a rival male to induce coloration. sorry for all the questions but i learned a valuable lession in fish research.

Well as I said, when the fish is dominate it drastically improves coloration. The males dominate the females, though differently, in that they don't rip their lower jaws off or leave large scarring. So while I've not kept a male flasher with females I would assume that would be the best solution to maintain good color and flashing behavior.

I'm sure someone else could answer your question with direct experience however.

As to the poll to keep on track, I voted Carpenter's. I find they look prettiest when they flash, though admittedly, the Blue and McCosker's may photograph better.
