Hi all, am I in the right area?
which is better for Queens?
NY Reef Club or Long Island Reef Association?
Looks like no one is using the Brooklyn Aquarium Society or the East Cost Reef club.

I live in New Hyde Park, not far from you. I don't belong to anything but I have gone to the Long Island Reef Assn meetings a few times. Nice crowd.

You should clarify your question as to whether you're asking about an online forum, or a physical club. Or both, if you wish; but right now you seem to be getting responses (in both places you posted this) that are confusing the two.

The most active online forum for the whole Metro area is manhattanreefs.com

But if you're looking to join a physical club, then simply check them out by attending a meeting.

In my opinion all three, the one virtual and the two physical, have a lot to offer, and lots of terrific people, therefore, I am a member of all three.

Also... (and I know the online forums don't require this) in my opinion a real name goes a long way toward being accepted in a group.

ah, I see. Well after years of browsing, I finally created a user name, so I can see all the posts and subsections of this forum.
So this is actually a club's page. I've been on manhattan reef for years now, I thought reef central was more of a nationwide forum, which is why I avoided it.

Short answer is all of them for me. At least the ones that I'm aware of. They each have something to offer; good and bad. You have to decide how much you want to tolerate and how much value each offers.
Long answer, RC is great for all the articles, stickies, and the vast user base which has a lot of added value. MR is the most active in terms of local users and because of the local user base members can relate to local events as they affect each other in the hobby.
LIRA is a decent club that is active on both forums and also have a forum of their own. They also have monthly meetings but not until October. I joined up a while back but never attended a meeting due to scheduling conflicts.
I think there is also a reef club in Ozone Park Queens which is very active. I would like to join up that club too since my home is in Ozone Park and I'm in the process of setting up a tank there as well.
In summary, I'm new and had no idea where to start and in a couple of months I decided to explore all avenues. Eventually I will decide which one I want to stick with or which one has the best network, and is a good use of my time. Or maybe I just stick with all.
I encourage you to do the same investigation.
