Which Jebao?

Agree with the RW15 being way too powerful for a tank that size. I would go with the two RW8 as some other members have suggested.

RW-8 if you have sand, RW-15 if you run BB.

RW-15 moves a lot of water. I know it's rated for "only" ~3100GPH, but at full speed it moves dramatically more water by volume than a Tunze 6105. When positioned ~6" below the surface and pointed directly at the opposing wall of my 120, it moves more water in a gyre motion (towards the opposite wall in the top 1/2 of the tank, towards the pump in the bottom 1/2 of the tank) than two 6095s running at 100%. Extremely wide flow. A Tunze (or the WP series Jebao pumps) generate an extremely high velocity stream. The RW pumps create flow that's more akin to a moving wall of water, more like what you feel in an ocean current.

At full tilt ~4" below the surface it generates enough flow to create vortices that pull down air on the opposite side of a 4' 120. In a 40b it will generate strong enough vortices against the far wall to pull bubbles halfway across the bottom back towards it.

I've decided to move my 4 tunze pumps (6105, 3x 6095) down to the 93 cube I'm setting up as a dedicated 'nem tank, because two RW-15s can move far more of the tank's volume with a more desirable flow pattern than the 4 combined.

That said, I do have two complaints. In "C" mode, the dials on the two pumps to determine how long they run do not exactly match. When the knob is pointed straight up, both pumps should alternate on/off roughly every 30s. They don't match perfectly. One of them is also slightly noisy. Quieter than a Vortech, but I value my silence. If it doesn't quiet down after a little more run in time, I'll get in touch with Reef Breeders.

I am building a 120 and need additional powerheads. I feel like Vortech is going to come out with something new this year or next and not sure if I want to postpone purchasing anything just yet. I definitely like Tunze, so 6095/6105 would be good options too. When I look at the RWs, I think RW-15 just based on the product flow rates, but you seem to indicate the much wider flow makes RW15s not a good fit for a 120. It's not possible to turn them down to 50% to operate with a sand bottom? It seems like the RW-8s would not be a lot by just comparing flow rates with other manufacturers. Don't a lot of reefers put two MP40s on their 120s? Based on your experience and post above, would you stick with two RW-15's for a 120 with sand or go with the RW-8s and why?

In any mode other than W1 (on/off wave), H (constant), and C (alternate between master/slave), the in-controller speed adjustment function does not work on the RW-15. I am now using two in my 120 in H on one of the third lowest flow setting with my Apex switching them every minute.

I REALLY think that even on this setting it'd push sea floor special grade within a few inches of the glass away.

Will the rw models run on the apex with the same modified cord for the wp models? I can't seem to find anyone who knows for sure.

Hi everyone. Suggestions? I have a 180g 60"X24"X30" tall mixed reef with one WP40 on one side and 2 Hydor 1500 on the opposite side with my desired flow was an alternating clockwise and then counterclockwise flow but the lack of anti sync with 2nd gen Wp40 left me waiting for a better controller, now that the RW series is out I want to replace my setup with 2 RW's my question is with my intended clockwise and then counterclockwise flow in my tank the WP40 was a little weak running solo so should I get the RW20 Or the RW15 and if I get the 20 what the lowest flow with another power supply? Thanks (wishing for a RW17)

I just purchased 2 x RW 20's for my 400 gal reef. (viewable from 3 sides) the RW's definitely push water 7 feet away and with careful angling I can get it so the sand doesn't move much but there is an huge amount of current on the sand bed.
I replaced two Tunze 6155's with these RW 20's and the difference is amazing. The Tunze's are rated for around 3900 gph, and the RW's are 5250gph. But the amount of flow feels more like 6000pgh
On a 60 inch long tank, you would need to turn them down or bounce the flow off the glass to disperse it.

I just bought a rw20 and put in my 6' 120 today. I turned it on in W1 mode and the wave it made was RIDICULOUS!! The 2 mp40 I had couldn't do what this 1 rw20 did. It's stirring sand like crazy so hopefully that settles down, in retrospect the 20 may be too much 2 8's or maybe 2 15's would've been plenty.

I have 2 RW-20's in a 150, 48"x32"x24", and at half power, or 4 lights lit, they make waves. If I turn them to 100%, the water will not stay in the tank! I run them on the random mode I think.

I have 2 RW-15's on my standard 6 foot 180....i have them about 1/4 of the way speed wise and they still blow sand...theyre crazy nice and strong. If you want them to look decent and pump alot of water, go with two RW-8's. I wish I would have done that now...

I don't know what the deal is then. I have 2 RW 15's - first off they are f'n loud. Second I have them cranked and they barely move the water. My tank is 32"x30"x64"
