Which Light Setup?

I'm babysitting a clam for a friend after his tank crashed due to a power outage. I need to keep it for a couple of monthsuntil he gets his other tank setup. I have two tanks I could put the clam in. The first tank is a 50 gallon cube w/ a 175W MH 10K bulb, and the other tank is a 55 gallon w/ 220W PC. Right now I put the clam in the 55 about halfway up. The tank it was in was a 75 gallon w/ 250W MH and 110W PC. THe clam was sitting on the sandbed on the other tank. The clam seems to be opening up fine and reacting to light changes. It is about 3-4" wide. The closest picture of what it looks like I could find of it was the Maxima on page 148 of Giant Clams. I was wondering if I should move the clam to the other tank or let it settle in and recover where it is at. There was a bigger clam with this one but it didn't make it. In a couple of weeks I'm supposed to setup a 400W MH 10K on the 50, but I need to build a canopy for it first. I need to wait a couple weeks because Iwas injured and can't pickup anything right now. When I get the 400 going should I move it to that tank and sit the clam on the bottom? TIA

I would refrain from moving it from tank to tank. I may move it a little higher up in the 55 though. No need to move it under 400's when it will be returning home under 250's in the end. This would kind of like giving candy to a baby, then taking it away.:) If you have it sitting on your rockwork, how are you making sure that it will not attach to the rocks, with it's byssal threads? Thanks, for helping out your friend and his clam. Rob

If it attaches to the rock we will just take out that piece of rock and move it still attached. To bad he wants it back it is a beautiful clam and really looks good in my tank. We put it in last night around 11:00 and it opened up right away. :)

I'd stick with the 175w halide for now. If you do swap it out for the 400w, be SURE to slowly acclimate it to the new lighting.
