Which lighting for my SPS tank?

I'd honestly go with a single 400 watt pendant in a large reflector like a Coralvue Lumenbright or a sunlight supply lumenmax elite

I would stick with the 150w. Had 150w's on my previous 75 and it worked out well with acros on the top half. Depending on how deep your tank is, 150w's could definitely work.

I am a huge advocate of MH's and use them oin 2 of my 3 tanks. However, I feel that 3' tanks are perfect for T5 lighting and that would be the direction I'd go. If you're really wanting to go MH I wouldn't mess with the 150w bulbs and certainly not with the cheap knockoff lights from Fishneedit.

Agreed, if it were me (I love mh) then I'd get 250w halide or a solid t5

I went with LED's on my setup, but would go with an ATI t5 fixture if I was starting over. MH was not even on the table with me as I didn't want the extra heat. There's no doubt a 20k MH tank looks fantastic tho.....

The 36" size seems to be the most difficult for metal halide applications. I finally opted for 2x 250w DE for my 36" x 24" x 20" (75G), with the ability to dim the 250w bulbs with an electronic ballast if necessary.

None of the high end lamp manufacturers give a good option for the 36" size, as one DE lamp over 36" isn't going to be enough coverage in the small reflectors that Giesemann type lamps provide.

A single 400w or 2x 250w is what has been recommended to me. I would think the 2x 250w would give better overall coverage, but obviously a 400w would have the best punching power in the center.

The question that you need to ask yourself is what do you want the lighting system to look like? If you don't want a canopy, then the Sunlight supply type reflectors that are necessary for a single 400w bulb and the required coverage will look gawd awful. There are pendants that would work well, but then getting supplemental lighting can be difficult and also an eye sore. I also wouldn't mess with the discount brands like what you posted.

ReefBrite makes a decent looking pendant that you can add their LED strips to, but they are insanely expensive for such an industrial looking fixture.

I'm ditching a $2500 led fixture for MH. Sigh. If that's to say anything, two 250's over a 44x26x16
