Which macro lens?

I've wanted a macro lens for some time and finally decided to pick one up. I have a Canon XSi and I was thinking about picking up the canon 100mm macro http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/194451-USA/Canon_4657A006_100mm_f_2_8_USM_Macro.html
Then I came across this Tamron 180mm macro and it's not much more money and it's gotten decent reviews. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/284404-REG/Tamron_AFB01C700_180mm_f_3_5_Macro_Autofocus.html
Aside from focal length which lens is better and why?

Thanks for the link. There seems to be a lot of praise for the canon lens but I've heard that before and was why I was going to go with that lens. There wasn't much talk about the tamron lens though. It sounds like the 180mm is better because it gives you more working distance. And what is BOKEH?

Both are sharp. You're correct that the 180 will give you more working distance.

Bokeh, describes the out of focus areas in your frame. Some lenses can give a more pleasing Bokeh than others due to the number of blades in the aperture diaphragm.

Alright, thanks for the info. As of now I'm thinking I'm going to go with the tamron unless some one talks me off the ledge before I buy in week or so.

Nothing wrong with Tamron, they make good glass. The only other thing I'd consider is that while both should be used with a tripod for best results, the 180 is approaching the size/weight that makes hand-holding very difficult unless you've got very bright light.

Taking into consideration the fact that I'm a total novice would you suggest one over the other?

Sigma 150/2.8

I've heard the sigma is a good lens but didn't look too much into since it's out of my price range.
