Which Other Tangs Can I Keep To Avoid Tang Warfare

Currently have a yellow and yellow bellied blue tang.

About to QT a purple tang, and introduce the purple and yellow to the 240 at the same time.

Just curious what other tangs I can add down the line.

After the purple goes in, I'll be QT'ing an achilles tang, so I know I can not get a powder brown or powder blue.

Also scratched the idea of getting a Crosshatch Trigger, so looking for some other show piece fish :)

Thanks :)

I'd consider a ctenochaetus sp or Naso Tang (Naso lituratus) since they're from different tang families.

You might have some problems putting the achilles in with an established purple and yellow. If that works, the problem only will be greater if you try to introduce another tang to an extablished purple, yellow and achilles. It might work, but you have to be prepared to take quick action to save the newcomer if one of the established fish takes a disliking to it.

Maybe get a bristletooth tang (Tomini or kole) and introduce it with the purple and the yellow, so you only have one tang introduction later (the achilles).

Is this a reef so you don't want a large angel for a showpiece fish?

Angels!!! Lots of colorful ones to choose from... Tangs are so last year.... ;)

If you had to pick more tangs; I'd recommend a chevron or mimic.

I'm putting a 8" naso in my 650.....they love tons of flow and high o2 saturation.... If you can provide those things you should be okay with a small one.... But they do get very big....

Id watch the purple in there. They can be terrors to anything that is introduced after. The same with the achilles. Truely georgous fish but I would wait til they were the last 2 introduced if it were me

Would the Achilles and Purple be mean to other non-tangs? Or just other tangs?

Kind of thought if they were different family of tangs, they would get along... well expect for the Sohal lol

A good friend of mine has a purple in her tank. It wont let any other fish of any kind in the tank without instant death. She finally gave up on trying to finish stocking and the tang has been in the tank for as long as I can remember.

Also, wanted to get the purple in soon since I have a yellow I'm moving over to the 240... wanted them to go in at the same time...

What is the general rule for keeping tangs together? Are they supposed to be ok as long as they are from different families?

Kind of what I heard... and if you want two in the same family introduce them at the same time.

Heard the Sohal was really aggressive, now hearing that about the purple too :eek2:

I think that is more typical in smaller tanks. I have not heard horror stories of purples being terrors in 240 gallon tanks.
