Which RO/DI is right for me?

So I am planing on adding a RO/DI unit to my house, and I wanted to know what unit you would recommend for me.

The biggest thing is that my TOTAL BUDGET is only $207.77, and I would like to not use all of it because if I do, then I have NO spending money for the next 2 weeks. If I wait 2 weeks till I get paid again, I could have another $100-200 to spend, but I want that money to go towards other things.

I have been looking at an RO/DI from the filter guys that is only $130 but it is a bare bones system, and if I got it, what would I need to add right away to get it running, and what can I add later. I am currently NOT planing to use this RO/DI system as an auto top off (the water source is to far away from the tank).

Thanks,

Stew

You need to ask yourself, what features do I absolutely need right now, what water quality will be acceptable for now and how much am I willing to spend in the future to get it up to where I would have had if I had spent $200 to $275 to begin with.
When trying to save money on the initial purchase you obviously have to give something up and whatever it is it usually involves lesser water quality in one way or another. Cheaper units almost always have cheaper quality prefilters, carbons, possibly membranes and almost certainly DI filters. You will probably not get a TDS meter or pressure gauge both of which are very important in determining hpw well you system is working. You probably won't get a good quality RO membrane like the 75 GPD Dow Filmtec or a vertical refillable 24oz DI canister and cartridge.
You may not get an autoshutoff valve or a ball valve to stop the flow, You probably won't get a DI bypass so you can use RO only water for drinking or other purposes.

What I am leading up to is save your money a little longer, do without a few extras for another week or two and buy the right system the first time or you will end up spending much more buying all these things one at a time to upgrade.

Two good vendors have been mentioned already and there are a few others also but talk to each of them to see what they can provide for you. Mention Reef Central as some of them are sponsors here and pay special attention to RC members and may throw a little something in on the deal.

Ok so today I got a check in the mail from the car ins company for a refund of $100!!! So with the new budget, I believe I will go with the typhoon 3.

If I am hooking it up to where a sink was ment to be installed, what fitting do I need? All that is coming out of the wall is the cold water line, the hot water line the the drain line (the thing that kinda makes a circle then goes back into the wall). Each of the hot and cold water have female threaded sockets and is that what the SV-6 supply valve that comes with it fits in?

It sounds like what you are looking at is a hot water, cold water and the loop for a water softener. You need to adapt to the cold water valve and find a drain somewhere.

its not a loop, its the drain. I'm almost 100% sure its the drain because its a larger diamater pipe (~1"?) and it is exactly where the bottom of the sink would be.

yeah thats a drain, its called a P trap, it hold water in the "loop" keeping the sewer gases (smell) from entering the house, just shove the ro waste line down it, make sure it won't fall out though! I'd rather see a large sink attached in case of a backup, but since its clean water you should be o.k.

I personally like the Kent maxima systems.

HI-S ( high silica ) removal membrane removes almost 100% of tap water contaminates.

built in TOTL DI stage.
comes in 35/50/60/120GPD models,

a bit expensive, but In the end youve got really nice water..

1.4 product/waste water ratio, but if your like me and nifty, when I fill up my 33gallon storage cell I just put the waste water in our swimming pool and top it off! works great! that way your not wasteing any water at all...

or you can water flowers with the waste water...
anything besides orchids/carnivorous, etc....

just my 2 cents.
