Which RO/DI unit: Typhoon III or Optima?

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone had any perspectives on these two RO/DI units: the Typhoon III that I see at airwaterice and the optima chloramine advanced. I know that I've seen a lot of folks on here raving about the Typhoon III system, but I ran across the Optima and it seems to have a few more bells and whistles (I gotta admit I like the integrated TDS meters). But then again... its $50 more expensive. I dont want to scrimp, but dont want to over do it either. I'm spending roughly $100/month on water @1.29 a gallon for RO. Figured I'd put it to you guys and see what opinions everyone has?

I have the typhoon and im a really happy customer. Have no experiance with the optima.. The typhoon came ready to go and installed it within minutes.

I believe the optima doesn't have a shipping charge and comes with a 10% discount when you type in the special code available on the sponsor site. Both are supposed to be good systems with top notch customer service. Bryan with Purely H2O is always around and answering questions / offering help. They say call him and he will help you decide what you need before you order. He can answer all your questions and may save you some trouble.

I had heard about the Typhoon III on the forum before and everyone seemed to be really satisfied... then I saw the purelyh2o in someone's profile... I guess it was Bryan as that sounds familiar... and their optima seemed to be pretty nice as well... if the shipping is free and it comes with a 10% discount... it almost seems like you're getting more bang for your buck?

Nice. How do you get that 10% coupon if you go with the optima? That pretty much makes them the same price... Typhoon III $224 and then the optima would be $225... which takes price out of the consideration.

I think if you call purelyh2o and talk to bryan he can give you the code (it is in other threads in here but I can't search).
My guess is both units are fine. Haven't heard anyone really say why one versus the other...though I will monitor this as I need to get a unit shortly.

I just got my typhoon 3 a week and a half ago as yoboyjdizz said it installed in minutes and water is 0 tds, love it. Supposidly if you call to order your typhoon over the phone and mention RC they will throw in a free float valve. I found this out after the fact, and I ordered mine over the net. Oh well!

I'm sure you'll be happy with either unit.

Discount code is listed in a thread on the Purely H2O sponsor forum in Reef Central. The code is RCDJB8HL. Double check to make sure. You need to use this code when placing the order.
If you call and talk to Bryan he will see that you get what you need and the discount. I will be ordering mine soon. Just waiting on the money to come in.

Do you have chloramines?

I have the Typhoon III (insert "and I love it!" comment here). I can't tell from the first post, but just in case you don't know, the Typhoon III comes w/ a handheld TDS meter, which IMO is more useful than one that's hardwired into your filter. You can test any vessel of water anywhere. Found out my tapwater is G-awful. (274 ppm!)

To be honest I dont know if I have chloramines at all. I did notice that both units come with free TDS meters or thats what it looks like on their sites.

Before ordering any RO/DI call your local water utility and request a copy of their "Consumer Confidence Report" or water quality report. They are required by law to give you a copy annually. Its good to have that in front of you when talking to the vendor so they can provide you with the best unit for your water conditions and usage patterns.
I also recommend www.purelyh2o.com , www.airwaterice.com , www.buckeyefieldsupply.com and www.thefilterguys.biz .

All will provide a very good RO/DI designed for reef needs and using nothing but the very best components including a Dow Filmtec 75GPD true RO membrane. Call or e-mail all of them and discuss your needs with them. You will be impressed by the customer service guaranteed. Go with whoever you feel most comfortable with, none are a bad choice.

I also have the typhoon 3 from airwaterice and this thing is very easy to use. I'm not the most handy person so I was worried when I ordered this thing that I would have trouble working the unit. There was no problem at all, I had this thing making 0 TDS water 10 minutes after taking it out of the box. Best thing I have bought for the tank.
