Which rock in a reef tank?

My new tank will be 30 inches deep I plan to use mostly live rock but I would like to aquascape some tall structures. I have some tufa to use as a base but came across something called moonrock at a local landscaping store. They said it's sold for aquariums all the time. It looks really cool but is it safe to use in a reef?

They are probably referring to freshwater aquariums, which utilize standard terrestrial rocks without problem. That isn't to say that the moonrock wouldn't be suitable also for salt water, but it's hard to say without knowing what kind of rock it is, i.e. shale or slate, limestone, volcanic, etc.

They said it's a sedamentary/sandstone type rock. I geuss they get it from Colorado. Does that help?

IMO that rock wont be a very good buffer and if it is not very porous may not be good for biologicle filtration either

The tufa is quite porus, the moon rock just looks cool.
