So what are the options for connecting? I really don't know what a waste water hose is, or where else I can connect this. I really would like to connect it under the sink though, so I can have the faucet.

I just ordered the spectra pure maxcap 150 instead of the 90 only cost 20 dollars more. I'm no expert but it seems like a better deal.

I'm wondering (according to the votes), which units the people are saying that I can spend less $$$ and still get a great quality product? Would those units include the Typhoon III?

Smith1571,

Where did you order the Spectrpure Maxcap 150? I saw a big difference in price (not $20)

Im sorry I thought you were talking about maxcap not maxpure. I
I meant the maxcap 150 is $20 more than the maxcap 90. I paid $369 +$30 shipping. I bought it on spectrapure.com
I was just kind of wondering why everyone recommends the specrapure maxcap 90 but theres no talk about the 150. Thinking maybe theres something wrong with it.

I would have to say Spectrapure MaxCap RO/DI. There is nothing else like it on the market and it is well worth the price difference. You will more than save the difference in the first year alone if you make much water at all.

I called Spectrapure today to ask when I could expect my Maxcap 150 and they said that they couldn't get a 150 gpd membrane to pass their standanrd.

So the they offered my a 180 gdp with 2 -90 membranes for the price of the 150 unit. Seems like good customer service.

Is it really bad to drink RO/DI water? I was on the Spectrapure website and noticed they have the unit for drink (the tank and faucet), which is what I am looking for, but noticed that all their drink water is RO only. Is it possible to have the tank/faucet connect to the RO/DI unit?

Most all units are plumbed with RO only for drinking. DI water is really a waste for drinking and cooking as it costs much more to produce and has a very bland taste, not at all appealing since it has no minerals. Minerals are what gives good tasting water its good taste.

from my understanding drinking RO doesn't hurt you in the short run. Its the long term that it does. All those trace amounts of metals and such are actually important to your body, and drinking RO water over long term basically starves a lot of your cellular functions of required minerals. So I think they just say don't use them so people don't get in the habit and forget they are drinking only RO water.

You receive almost exactly 0% of your minerals from drinking water. One potato chip gets you more than even a weeks worth of tap water much less ROwater.
Drinking RO water is perfectly fine and is preferrable to tap water. Anyone who tells you any different is full of it. Even drinking RO/DI water is fine, you could not possibly drink enough water to do your body harm. There have been a few inconclusive studies but none were documented well enough for me to lend any credence to them.

No the MaxPure is not quite the system the MaxCap is. It does not contain same filter combinations as the MaxCap does. For the price difference the Maxap is twice the system and then some.

well if you drink too much water you can die.... :p

Anyways, AZ why did you end up switching from the typhoon III? Was your higher than normal tap TDS the reason?

Yes. With the old unit using a 5 micron prefilter, 5 micron carbon block, 1 micron carbon block, 75 GPD Dow membrane and a 24oz vertical refillable DI with fresh nuclear grade resin I was getting almsot exactly 150 gallons per DI refill. My tap TDS was in the same 750 to 850 range, the RO was averaging 11 to 13 TDS and DI would stay at 0 for about 130 gallons and up to about 2 at 150 gallons where I changed it.
With the new unit using a 0.5 micron absoute rated prefilter, 0.5 micron Chlorine Guzzler carbon block, a 90 GPD SpectraSelect hand tested membrane, a 24 oz MaxCap DI cartridge and a 24 oz Silica Buster DI cartridge I am already over 560 gallons on the original now almost 9 month old DI resin and still going. The tap TDS is running 790 to 860, RO only is averaging 6.2 to 6.4 and DI is still less than an indicated 0 TDS using the COM-100 TDS/Conductivity meter.
This is proof positive there really is a big difference between RO/DI units and the filters they contain.

why couldn't you use these filters in the typhoon III?

I'm pretty lucky because my tap is in the 100-200 range.

It would have cost me just about as much to buy all the replacements as it did to purchase the new MaxCap unit at group buy prices. Plus my old unit was 10 years old so it was about time for new housings and fittings anyway. Plus with the new unit I got 2 dual inline TDS meters to help keep track of things and some replacement DI cartridges as part of teh group buy. Spectrapure is great with group buys for clubs and such.
Even with a tap TDS of 100-200 it would still pay for itself in DI and membrane replacements in no more than 2 to 3 years. They have put together some really good numbers showing pay back.
