Which Seio for a 180g

Hello all,
After two years Im reconverting my 180 folwr to a mixed reef again. SInce then the Seio's have come out and seem to be popular. I was thinking of getting 2x seio 1100 and running them in each side of the tank for water movement. What do you all think? Im already running a dart sequence for a return.(its balled down).

Thanks

Not sure how your sumps setup but Id imagine you can get plenty of flow out of that dart for a 180, tee off of it and run it wide open if your overflows will handle it. If you want random flow you can always add a SCWD device or two and get the randomness that way.

I'm running a dart on my 120 and it's wide open. I'm only using one 1" drain as well and have the other setup as an emergency drain incase the main would fail. I don't see why you can't run it wide open on a 180... Where you getting microbubbles? I hate the look of power heads in my tank, that's why I went with the dart and used a manifold above the tank to distribute the flow.

Thanks for the heads up but my overflows cant handle the dart wide open. I would imagine if I went with a manifold over the top it may work.

cstires-can you send me a pick of what yours looks like?

Thanks

Your overflows should be identical to mine, therefore they should handle it. I have two 1" drains, however I'm only using one of the drains. I'm in school right now, but I will send you a pic of my setup as soon as I get home.

When I was using two drains I had plenty of drain to handle the incoming water, my problem was that I was getting major microbubbles in my display. So I followed the advice of a fellow reefer and went to one drain and using the other as a emergency drain. This enabled me to maintain about 6" of water above my main drain, I then used a gate valve to control the flow and eliminate all incoming bubbles.

Something else to think about is that once you create a siphon like the above example, your drains will pull a considerable amount more water through the pipe. Your free to come by and take a look at how I have my setup.

I'll post pics a little later, probably around 10:00 or 11:00.

Here are some pics of the pump and the manifold...

The only thing that's not pictured in these photos is the loc-line fittings that are attached to the outlets in the PVC. But as you can see the ball valve on the return is wide open. SPS are doing great, and no other water movement device is in the tank.

Your plumbing looks good. Whats your overflow rated at? I would imagine your running 2xi 1 inch drains and 2x3/4 returns plumbed to 6 loc-line fittings. Does this sound right?

The overflow is rated at 1200gph, however it's handling well over that!

I'm using a single 1" drain and 2 1" returns plumbed with 3/4" loc-line.

Your not too far away from me, I live right behind UCF. You should come by and I can show you how I have it setup. It's amazing how much flow a 1" drain can handle when you convert it to a full siphon instead of allowing gravity to work for you.
