The CPR Bak-Paks have a new pump now that looks like the maxi-jet1200. They claim that it works better by adding a venturi mod straight into the pump housing. This puts less restriction on the pump while still allowing it to draw in a lot of air bubbles. I just got one of these for my Bak-Pak 2 and so far it works better than the mj. I'll keep you posted on the skimmate production with the new pump.

neither, get a D&D marine typhoon for cheap, it will work better.
If you have some cash a bermuda aquatics rouge wave for $250 looks real nice and the tunze 9010 is awesome (but $330 and it goes inside not HOB) the tunze 9002 is also good up to about 40-50 gallons, much smaller and around $130. Another option would be an odyssea ps160, cheap (if you can find one) and decent, but I never tried the HOB configuration.
Any of the above is better than the two you have in your poll.

What size is the tank? I have had both the remora and a single bak pak and I prefer the bak pak. First because of the design I could put my heater in there and secondly you could mod it. By putting an airstone to get more air in the reaction chamber it really increased its performance. That being said I would do either a d&d typhoon from drs fosters and smith or a bak pak for a tank under 40g. Once you go above that then perhaps a needlewheel skimmer would be more appropiate.

I have an AquaC Remora Hang-On Protein Skimmer w/ Drain Fitting + Maxi-Jet 1200 Pump on a 37g with a 20g fuge. This thing is awesome. I have the filter box on it also. Thats all I did and plugged it in. I also leveled it. I dont use the overflow fitting so I have to clean it more. I get a full collection cup every week. The tank has 60lbs of LR, 40lbs LS. 3 damsels, 8" snowflake eel. I would highly recommend it.

"I get a full collection cup every week" I'm guessing its a light green color if that or very light brown. The remora pro is not a good hot skimmer, if you want to spend >200 on a hot skimmer get the bermuda hot, it'll pull that much per day and its dark. Most people with the remora pro have been told its an awesome skimmer by wetwebmedia..........Aqua c is there largest sponsor and they don't necessarily push other skimmers. I've had some words with wetweb and they still say the remora is awesome. Just from that feedback tells me they don't worry about anything but there money from aqua c.

I agree. A full collection a week isn't anything to brag about. My cheapo mesh modded JEBO180 pull out a full cup a day and it was $35

olk how about a cup full of dark tea or coffee coloured nog from 55g mixed reef (SPS dominated) with one perc clown, one mandarin, one lawn mower blenny, and one yellow watchman goby. Not exactly a light bio load but not exactly heavy either.

I feed the fish one every other day switching with mysis, enriched brine shrimp, or cyclop flakes.

Not so bad for a cheapo skimmer.

The Aqua-c is working for me and I am very happy with it. I did notice lately it fills the cup every 2-3 days with dark brown like syrup skimmate. Im happy.....

t11t5.....i would love to see the pics. I've never seen a remora do didly besides some sad light green tea.

here it is working so good that the foam comes out the breather hole on top..

Aqua C Remoras are hand built, so there is variation in the height of the injector which can lead to differences in the quality of skimmate. When the injector is placed at the proper height the Remora can pull some pretty good sludge, but when the injector is not properly placed the Remora can pull little from the water. This is why some seem to rave about them and others think they are worse than Seaclones. My Aqua C Pro w/ Mag 3.5 was a really good skimmer and I was surprised at its production, but this seems to be more of the exception than the rule.

T115, looks good, next time take a pic of the skimmate in a glass, that wasy we can see the color......but it looks pretty good. Thats the first one i've ever seen that full.
