Which skimmer?

I am looking at a used Skimz SK251 (used for 6 months and in storage for 18 months) for $450 or a new Skimz SM202 recirculating skimmer for $475

I would say that the 202 is a better match to your tank. A 180 tank should have a 8'' body skimmer.

The SK251 runs two Eden 5000 pumps while the SM202 only has one. The SK251 is going to pull twice as much air. The SM202 is an external skimmer which I like better than internal skimmers but your only pulling about 900 lph of air.

Have they fixed the Eden pump problems?

The AC Eden pumps were fixed a long time ago. I have had mine for about 6 years and it's working great.

They had a problem with their DC pumps upon initial release too, but that was a couple/a few years ago and that too has been solved. BRS is backing the products for warranty issues so there should be no problems. Also, there is a dedicated Skimz thread where the problems were detailed with the DC pumps.
