which skimmer

im gonna be upgrading my skimmer in my 72b/f....looking to spend about 200 to 250 maybe 300 if my wife doesnt find out..im looking for a skimmer that i can put beside my wet/dry and hopefully im not gonna have to upgrade again.. any ideas

If you want to put is beside the wet/dry, I'm not sure about the ASM. They really should be used inside the sump. You can take a look at the Pacific Coast RPS-2000 RC at www.reeftanksupply.com.

I've got a 72bf and use a classic berlin turbo skimmer. Got a good deal on it, it's pretty small. It did take a while for it to find it's "groove" and the pump is affected by medium water level swings caused by evaporation, put once I got it running, i've been happy. A lot of club members are switching to a local custom skimmer builder named Todd, at http://aquaticareef.com Everything i've seen built has been top grade, at a fraction of the price.

Yep I missed that completely. The ASM is a sump only type. Not so sure about external use. That might be scarey. They do work great in your sump though.

The ASM can be equipped with a recirc mod that "theoretically" would allow it to be external. However, I believe a few people have found that all the other connections aren't completely leak tight. Not a problem in sump though, and a good value skimmer.
