Which t5 fixture for shallow frag tank?

Tried asking in the coral prop section, no luck. More traffic here so here it goes:

Hey everyone,
I'm wanting to set up a 48"×24"×8" frag tank and I'm looking at an ATI Sunpower 8x54w fixture.

Do you think this is too much for mainly sps frags?

I want fast growth and really bright/deep colors.

I could also do a 36" fixture with 8x39w bulbs. This would give me low light areas for zoas, chalices, etc.

Also, it will be on light bar so I can raise it up.

Thanks in advance everyone!

6 bulb woud be more than enough for that depth. 8 would be too much light in my opinion.

lighting is only part of fast growth and color. water quality and flow are just as important.

on a side note. an mp60 on a 70 gallon?? hows that working for you?

Thanks for the input. The flow is handled by a 660-1321 gph return and an adjustable 4000 gph wave maker.

It's going very strong :uzi: I have it running at the second led indicator max lol

Bobby you've seen mine, it's 48x24x12 with ATI 36" 6 bulb fixture par ranges from 265 to 320 3" from bottom of tank. Fixture is 24" above bottom

Thanks, Guerry. I didn't know you had an account on RC!

I am leaning more and more towards the 36". I like the low light areas for acans, chalices, etc.

If your going to have Acans and Chalices, I would avoid the 8 bulb. I have an 8x80 over a 60L x 22W x 18H 100g rimless that is only SPS. With the fixture 5" above the water, I am getting over 700 PAR at 9" below the water. Good luck! James

Yes sir just don't post alot here, I find there's a ton of fokes who know much more about how to care for my animals than I do LOL

If you want an ATI let me know as I might beable to save you some $$$$

For a frag tank a 6 or 8tube 36" Sunpower would be fine, get the 8tube is possible to improve the colour combo-can use Actinic tubes in the 8 tube without worrying about PAR. Get an ATI unit if possible. I have an 8 tube LED Powermodule, PAR is crazy. Chalices and Zoas would appreciate the lower PAR, so the 36" is useful as you can place these at the ends.

When I replaced my 5tube + LED Sunpower with the new 8tube + LED Powermodule, I saw my large chalice expel strings of Zooxanthellae.

Thanks! I want to have a few Lps, but it is mainly for sps. And that is insane!

That sounds pretty neat to witness. Thanks for the input.

I just compared the UK prices for the Giesemann and the ATI (both non dimming 8x39w) and the ATI is £100 cheaper (about $150US), so I dont see why I would go with the Giesemann...it does look nice and spec wise is very similar to the ATI...But the ATI is proven to be a top performer etc and due to it being cheaper, the $150 could be spent on other equipment or even corals. :D

Just humble opinion. :)
