Which Tangs for my 225 Gallon

I was wondering which tangs i should put in my 225 gallon to go with a 7" mal naso tang, 4" blue dot grouper, and a 20" teselatta eel. I was considering a 5-6" purple tang and a 5-6" desjardini red sea tang. Would those tangs work, or will they fight because they are both zebrasomas? I heard that the Naso is the one to watch out for, and by making his species the odd man out with the 2 zebrasomas that it would be better than adding one from the naso family? What do you guys thin? I appreciate the help.

naso is pretty passive as tangs go if you add both zebrasomas at the same time you should be alright. But it could go the other route too. Eventually they should settle their differances. Lot of tang questions tonight.

Thanks i appreciate your info... I know the naso is mello, but he is 7" and male and he killed a 5" powder blue that was added at the same time as him. I will be adding the 2 new purple and sailfin tangs at the same time. I planned on netting the naso and isolating him for a few hours, so the other 2 new tangs could get comfortable. Then i would relase the naso back in, i will also rearrange the rock a little as well. I dont have a qt to hold the naso, so i figured 2-3 hours in a 5 gallon bucket with an airstone would do. Any advice? Thanks

my naso is in the 7-8 inch range and is with a orange shoulder, purple, yellow, red sea sailfin and a black tang. They get along great in my 220. Never had a single problem, all have been together over 2yrs. the naso is the baby of the group as far as attitudes. I do know that it is a case by case situation. also he is by in large the biggest of the group

Thanks Thor, you have exactly the fish that i want. I just did not know if they would get along after my 7" male naso killed my 5" powder blue. I will get the purple and the desjardini sailfin tang, and take the naso out for an hour. Or do you think that i should leave him in when i add the 2 new tangs?

not exactly sure, i dont know why the naso would have been like that. the only thing i could think of is, fish are going to fight for alittle while. The powder blues arent notorious for being a hardy fish. Maybe he couldnt handle the beating. Just a guess. Go for it on the purple and red sea. My red sea is the whole reason I got the tank. I LOVE THAT FISH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck and keep us updated.

Right on Thor, i want that RED SEA so bad i cant even sleep. I bought a large red sea, and a large purple, they both come Monday i just ordered from fishsupply. Should i do the isolation treatment on the naso and stick him in a 5 gal bucket while they show up for a few hours? Or just put the new 2 in? Thanks Thor

What would you advise for another tang if i were to add one more, to the naso, the purple and the red sea desjardini? I could get 1 more and then no more fish in the tank. What would you guys reccomend that i go with. I will send pics on monday.

I just ordered a white cheek tang to go with them in the large 5" size as well. Did i do well, or should i change the order? I have heard that the white cheek is more hearty than a powder blue. Is that true? If not, i will change the order to something that you guys reccomend. I have until Monday to change the order, so please advise. Thanks as always.

I have heard mixed things on the white cheek. Just about any tang is hardier then the powder blue. If you want him i say try it out, were are you getting him from liveaquaria?

No I hate that company... I love fishsupply.com they rock. I have bought every fish from them and they always come 100% mint and pre-quarantined. I cant say enough good things about them. Live aquaria sent me dead fish a couple times, and their color is never that great. Thanks for the reply, i have heard mixed notes as well on the white cheek. I may call it off and switch it. I think he will be weak as the acanthrus species is a weak genus, headlined by the powder blue which is the same genus.

Well, i got the 6" purple and 6" desjardini red sea sailfin tang today. Wow they are beautiful! I love them both! The 7" male naso was not removed, i just re-arranged the rocks first. The grouper managed to shred the desjardini's fins, i would say fairly badly. But now all seems to be ok. The Naso is the boss, he makes the purple and sailfin run from him when he wants. The grouper has lost interest after his initial initiation, which the purple did a better job defending than the sailfin. The naso is mean, and he does mess with them. It should all be over soon, i will send some pics tomorrow.

I may be incorrect, as the Red Sea is the one that is fighting with the Naso now. Even though his fins are Shredded, he is fighting like hell. The purple may be a chump compared to him. Both zebrasomas are sticking together against the Naso aggressor. I love them. I just hope the war stops by tomorrow. My purple only has black dots on the face, and not black lines on his sides? Is that because he is already 5" and the stripes go away when they are old? Or is it because he is stressed? I will post pics tomorrow. Thanks

Well i pulled the Naso today and stuck him in isolation. It is going on 3 hours and i will let him back in the tank in about 2 more hours. I re-did the rockwork of the tank so he will hopefully not do his 100 mile an hour drive by attacks on the purple and the sailfin. The red sea sailfin is much tougher than the purple tang. It is not even close. The red sea sailfin fights the 7" naso and he is only 5" and the 5" purple runs from the naso and never fights back. They almost seem to be a team the 2 zebrasomas. The red sea sailfin defends the purple from the naso, but the other 1/2 of the team the purple doesnt come to help the sailfin when the Naso is attacking. I hope when i put the naso back in he wont go insane, as he was not liking them at all for the 1st day.

Wow! What a difference. After 3 hours apart from the Naso and then upon re-entry of the Naso, all 3 tangs got along. The Naso wasnt acting as vicious by any means. It almost seems like they are a school now. I am so happy that finally they all just get along!

Cancel that... The purple was a chump and was basically crying and getting beat up by the Naso and Red Sea Sailfin. I took him to my LFS and traded him for store credit. I used that credit to order a 4" clown tang, lets see how that will go. Any ideas on how the clown will do with the 7" male naso and 5" red sea and 4" grouper? I was told by the LFS that they are no where as mean as Sohals which i had and got rid of due to its ferocity. Please let me know your thoughts about adding the clown tang. Thanks
