Oh the pain of having two huge tanks!
Though I like the idea of the cube being the reef, Chad does bring up a great point about sitting and viewing. However, I still like the cube since I'll be at the bar most of the time - thus that tank will be better viewing for me.
I vote Cube tank for the reef because of the surface are - 3600 sq inches versus 2880 sq inches for the long tank. That means a lot more places to put coral - especially if you do an island overflow. But if cost is truely a factor - the cube tank will cost more to stock (at least in theory). I couple of good friends could help you with that though.
