I know. There's a few places that still have some online but when it's gone it's gone. I had many great tanks with just kalk and Combisan in the '90s and '00s.
I have yet to see any good reason why the calcium reactor isn't the most reliable method to replace alk, calc and the various traces. I also add mag chips to keep mag stable too. Imo those other dosing methods are too complicated and FAR to costly to be worth it.
I looked into Triton method until I saw it would cost about $70/mo to dose my tank. F that
BUT... keep in mind that you won't be doing (many) water changes.
I used to buy a bucket of the better salt like Salinity once a month.
So that's a savings of $95.
When you factor that in, the cost of Triton is very competitive.
That said, I agree... CaRx are my favorite way to "dose". So easy.

Fair point, though I don't do many WCS anyway . 1 per month maybe....and that's like 25% so that's like 45g or so. I likely also won't be spending $95 on a bucket of salt
Well also keep in mind that a small water change once a month is more than likely not even coming close to providing all the minor trace elements that the tank needs, or that would be found in NSW.
But of course only a Triton test would be able to tell you for sure.
And even Triton admits they don't know what effect many of those trace elements (or lack thereof) have on our system.
That's the basis of the Triton method... providing all major and minor elements, and running a large "algae garden" refugium, in lieu of water changes.
So to be fair and compare apples to apples, you would really need to compare the costs of Triton with doing significant weekly water changes, on top of your CaRx running costs or your two-part dosing costs.
I was doing multiple daily auto water changes and even then I knew I had to be low on the minor trace elements, especially with how fast my tank was sucking up alk and calc. And my CaRx was only providing certain elements.
Again that is fair, and btw I do plan to use the triton lab. But only plan to dose separate what is needed. I am just not a big fan of dosing several diff fluids to the tank. If the tests show I am not able to keep up, then I may change course....
