White bumps on clown

My Clown Attacks Me
Can anyone tell if this is ich or not? They kinda look like white bumps. I did some research and there was the possibility of some other parasite or cyst? He also has some slight skin sticking out from under one of the eyes.
 
Honestly looks like ich to me i have much experiance with this. Increase feeding and reduce stress and he should be fine. Keep an eye on other fish

If this is ich, you've posted a good way to wipe out a tank. Ich needs to be eradicated or it will return in big numbers at the worst possible time.


I can't tell from the pic, but this sure looks like one of the protozoan parasites. Maybe ich. Is the skin peeling or sloughing of anywhere, a symptom of brooklynella? How is the fish's breathing? Is he scratching on substrate or rock? Eating? Was he quarantined? I have a gut feeling that this may be early brooklynella.

Mrtusk. He has not been scratching on anything. His breathing is normal. He is eating as normal too. I have had him for over a year. My other clown and firefish are fine and show no symptoms.
 
Mine is the same, symptoms and all, qt'd and dosing melafix, spots are going away but the little gal is lethargic and breathing heavy... Seems a little better today but isn't eating as well as she was a week ago.
 
If your fish have Ich, I don't think melafix will take care of it. The spots may be going away because of the cycle of Ich. Melafix is not known to take care of parasites.

Is everyone sure this is Ich? I just got this tank cycled and livestock moved over a week ago. I'd really hate to tear apart my rockscape to get my fish out. I have a bottle trap setup, but none of the fish are going near the opening. And there is three types of food in the bottle.
 
Well, I've not know clowns to eat food that isn't suspended, yet mine did grab a morsel once off the ground... As for ich, I don't believe it is. I think it may be bacterial.
 
Nobody is going to be able to tell you if it is Ich for sure. Obviously white spots on a fish are never a "good" thing so I would take the excellent advice previously given and increase feedings and keep stress to a minimum and keep observing. Try garlic to stimulate appetite if needed (but it sounds like it may not - a good thing!).

I would keep hands out of the tank, keep water quality high and feed a smaller amount of nutritious foods 3-4 times per day. No point stressing the fish out by trying to quarantine and medicate when you do not know what the parasite / infection is. A clown given a healthy diet and stress free environment should be able to control ich on its own with its good slime coat. If things go south then consider more extreme actions - at this stage if it is ich no meds are going to be able to kill the parasite while they are under the skin and slimecoat anyway (despite what the med manufacturer will tell you)....imo best strategy for now is feed, leave it alone, and observe.

Sounds sane. She's already in qt, mine anyway, and the melafix seems to be helping. I wonder how the original poster's clown is doing...
 
All of my fish (3 total) including the clown are still doing fine. Swims, breathes, and eats as normal still. I'm going check with my LFS to see if they have the Rod's food to help with nutrition. My LFS has limited hours on Sundays and didn't have free time to do it yesterday.

Mr Tuskfish, I would like to look at a spot that is on the fin of my Flame Angel through a microscope to confirm diagnosis. Is this possible since the cysts are not on the skin surface? I don't want to do any damage to his fin.

Removed, There's so much to say we like to promote conversation here as opposed to send them elsewhere~dc

Hope it is not against the rules to link to another board. It seems alot is unknown about this parasite and a fishes immunity to it. Maybe your expert can provide some links to studies to backup the claims posted on your link.

"My" expert? Maybe spend a little time on this forum and ditch the attitude. I believe it does violate the user agreement. I skipped around the above link it a bit and saw nothing but anecdotal opinions. You may want to
check Snorvich's credentials before questioning his reputation. There is nothing new about some fish getting some immunity to some ich strains.

The link I posted above was intended to provide some basic info on ich; not 20 pages of chit-chat on every aspect of the parasite.

Not gloating, but all of my fishes are still alive. I got some of the Rod's food. I wanted the Original, but my LFS only had the "fish only" available. I wanted the original so I could use it to feed my fish and coral. Anyway...

The clown that had the white spots is still doing well. The spots and the skin under the eye disappeared. Yes, I know this doesn't mean he is cured and could possibly be the next part of the cycle of Ich. My other smaller clown doesn't have any white spots, but has been spending a lot of time around the sandbed even when in my previous tank for I would say a total of 4 weeks and doesn't eat as much as the larger clown. The color around the top of the smaller clown is a bit faded. Kinda looks like a light powdery dusting around the top under my blues.

I've heard of using garlic to try to get fish to eat more. The only garlic I have around is garlic powder. Can I use this with pellets and Rod's foods?

The original clown got some more spots and the smaller one was swimming, but would lay on its side in their normal cave. I decided it would be best to get all of the fish out and start the tank transfer method last night. I really hated having to tear apart my rockscape to get three fish out, but I know it had to be done.

I am planning to do three days in a bucket at a time. I don't have to have some kind of medium with bacteria on it do I? The only thing I have is some filter floss in my sump, but I don't want to bring something into my QT that may have Ich on it.

So my plan is 3 days in a bucket and transfer to a new bucket 3 times early in the morning. After they have been in a total of 4 buckets, then transfer 3 days later to a regular QT tank. After my DT has been fallow for 9 weeks, fish will go back to DT.

I have two heaters, one HOB filter and one powerhead to switch between buckets as I am bleaching and cleaning between. First bucket has a heater and the HOB filter with nothing in it. I also added in a small dose of prazipro to help with any other diseases.

First Bucket for 3 days
2nd Bucket for 3 days
3rd Bucket for 3 days
4th Bucket for 3 days
Regular QT tank for 51 days

Is this right??

Day 3 and the little clown actually died. The clown with the spots and the firefish are still doing ok. I'm going to transfer them to another container with fresh SW tomorrow morning.
