white lines on glass

I have white lines on the inside of my aquarium about 4 inches down from the top where the water level used to constantly drop from evaporation and I have tried a razor blade and I can't seem to get it off, is there a buffer or something that someone knows of that I can get this off with?? It almost seems like the saltwater etched the glass all the way around and it is bugging me. Does saltwater etch glass? I am about to take the tank about to drill holes for a coast to coast overflow so I can do whatever you can suggest to get rid of this then ... thanks in advance for any advice

also I want to paint the back of the tank black, does anyone know the best type to use for this that won't peal or lift from the occasional water exposure?

i had that as well when i set my tank back up after 5 years. they are lime or calcium deposits. a razor blade took mine right off. get salt water in the tank and let it go for a week or two and then razor it off.

It has had saltwater in it for almost 3 years, when it was fish only we neglected it quite a bit and let the water level go down all the time, then we let it go when all the fish died and the water level stayed down, it was also done with tap water that whole time, we since did a reef tank and bought an ro/di system but he white line is there and I tried to razor it off last night and it wasn't budging and the water level is always to the top now that we have a sump .... when I have the tank empty can I buff this off somehow?

The lights seems to glare off the line and it looks bad, ready to go buy a new tank .... here is what it looks like at night with the lights on

Use the Mr Clean magic erasor. Maybe some vinegar but the erasor will do the job. You can use it right with the tank full. Nothing in it that will hurt the fish.

I never thought of that .... that's a good idea thanx I'll let you know if it works. We have city water, hard as hell, tried to get the water spots off the shower door with everything and anything including a dremel tool and they are on there permanently so we'll see about the fish tank
