ok so I'm new to this hobby but am already hooked. I just set up my tank and its been cycling for a week. Its a 55 with about 30 lbs live rock and 25 lbs base rock with live sand. The only thing in there right now are 2 chromis'. I just noticed 2 small spots on a piece of live rock that looks almost like white mold. Any ideas on what that is??

sounds like it could be bleached coraline. WHat kind of lighting do you have?
could also be some sort of sponge. Pictures would deff help.

ok so the first one is the "mold" and the other one is something that is green on the left, yellow in the middle, and red on the right and looks like it is hairy..anyone know what either of these two are??

Sponge! I asked the same question last week :) I was told it means you have really good water parameters!

oh ok cool!! im like a little kid right now since i am new to all this..i wake up and go right to my tank and see if there is anything new to figure out..haha well im glad that my water is good..i tested it yesterday and amm, trates, and trites are all 0 and my pH is 8.0 right now but the weird thing is its only been cycling for about a week..i thought that it takes longer to cycle??

You might not have much of a cycle if the rocks were cycled in another tank before you bought them.

Well, if your water is good and all your test come out good, I don't see why you shouldn't be able to put anything in there. If it were me though, I'd wait about a week or 2, test again and then if it's OK, add something.
