White star polyps

Few years ago I lived in Sacramento and a lfs there had large rock covered with pure white star polyps. I bought it and everything was cool for month or so then they started disappearing. After month no polyps left at all not even the mat.
Any ideas what caused this? All other soft corals grew well in the tank, even the gsp.

I'm going to take a shot in the dark and say if they were pure white they were severely bleached and were on they way out when you bought them. Bleached, no zooxanthellae, and therefore no way for it to make its own food. Just a guess though.

Did it look like the picture below? If so, these are not really White Star Polyp. They are Pipe Organ corals and they are harder to care for than most other soft corals. They tend to last about 3 to 4 months on regular tanks and they slowly dissolve away.

No didnt look like that. Looked like green star polyps only white. Ive seen them twice. they encrusting polyps.

They exist all right, I just saw some the other day at my LFS. However, every time I bought them, they encrusted for a month, then died the next (I bought frags, not corals).

Hi, I bought some two week's ago. They have a pink encrusting mat with pure white eight limbed star's. not frilly, just like green encrusting star polyp's but white polyp's.
looks great, hope they survive. Seem's to be very little info out there for these so maybe not so good chance's :sad2:

Never heard of them, or seen them, but i want them 0.0 I'm a huge fan of the GSP even though everyone says there a weed and just a pain. I'd love to have some that look just like them but different colors.....Maybe some day :P
