White Stripe Maroon Clownfish

Is there anyone that has 2 Maroon Clowns in the same tank, and if so, how do they get along with each other? I have been researching these clowns and some articles say that you should only have 1 maroon per tank and other articles make mention of pairs of maroons. I would like to get 2 small Maroon's and let them pair up if it is possible. Any replies would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Maroons can be very intolerant of each other even at small sizes. Pairing can be very difficult to say the least. Usually you want to get individuals with as much size disparity as possible so that there isn't any confusion as to which one will be dominant. I have had success with very large females and tiny males which is what is commonly seen in nature.

You can also buy "ready-made" pairs of maroons from breeders. Your LFS may be able to order you one if they have an account with a place like Sustainable Aquatics or ORA. They often show up on Live Aquaria/Divers Den. Having tried to pair maroons in the past, I think I would go the the pre-paired route next time myself.

Re: White Stripe Maroon Clownfish

Hi Velvet, fancy meeting you here! :)
Hello all, I rarely post here (just for reefsmart) but Velvet is a dear friend, thought I might pop in on just this one!

I have a pair of baby maroons bonding right now, I have had the most success with ordering them as juveniles and matching them while they are still male, or unsexed. The pair my ex bought this way about six or so years ago are still thriving today - they were both approx. an inch and a half when purchased, and now of course the female is an almost six inch beast while the male might be three inches on a good day. (the females are real good about keeping them small and in submission, lol)

Point is, size stops mattering so much when the fish are small enough, nature will work it out. If you are into gold stripes at all, find a dealer that can order you a pair from Sustainable Aquatics, I get mine from there. :) I favor white stripes myself, though...Velvet, who breeds those? SA never has, it's a shame...

Good Thread,
I just got a pair about a week ago.
The Female is HUGE and the male is even pretty good sized ( 3" ) I put down multiple pieces of live rock & a Flower Pot . This seems to help break up the aggression. The fine establishment that I got them from stated that for 6 Mos. they lived in the SAME tank with the SAME Flower POT.

She is HUGE and clears the bottom of my tank constantly. He hangs around & whenever she leaves the POT he jumps in and guards it. My guess , is that they have been together for quite some time.... interesting enough , at night -they both reside in their "House" ...I would DEF try getting a pair as opposed to pairing this CLOWN.

I have had trouble pairing my maroon. The first two attempts were miserable failures but third time is a charm. I've had the female now for almost a year, purchased around 1.5". My LFS had CB Maroons on sale so I figured why not, got him at a tiny. 75"-1". They have been living peacefully now together for probably close to three months. Within a month she was starting to exhibit nesting behaviors ie fanning the sand, biting the rocks, etc. Within the last week the male have started doing the same, I am very excite! Now she is around 2.5" and he is probably 1.25". I know they are still babies but it is a good sign for the future!
