Who are the MARS Board Members?

I brought this up in another thread, and Brian suggested it be done all by itself....so...tha copy-paste...

1) Who are the board members (handle, first name, position held)? Position duty statements are on the MARS site.
2) Their experience in the hobby
3) Any income from an aquarium related business?
4) What each persons goal for the club is without citing utterly useless mission statements that are used only for paperwork. As a board member, what is your personal goal for the club? (Not fluffy crap...but serious attainable goals.)

I think that this would actually be of some intererst to the club members and those that are thinking of joining, as well as an appropriate discussion for RC instead of the members forum.

Just had one of those lightbulbs pop over my head - how bout a simple meet n greet for the new Board? What better way to get to know your new officers than to drill em in person?

Back to the thread:

1) MrMikeB - Current board member with my hat in the ring as VP
2) See http://www.calcrc.org/index_files/MrMikeB.htm for details
3) Income?! Ha! Is that a joke? No income, just loads and loads of expenses.
4) What I want to do with the club in direct terms is to get this ship on track to being what it was sold to me as being all about.

This includes, but is not limited to:

I want more public events. More swaps. More participation at reefing events both inside and outside our areas. I want to see MARS in the paper for doing something good for the community. I want people to know about MARS from more than a Google search, or word to mouth. I want more programs where the club exists beyond the monthly meeting: breeder programs, coral co-ops, Big Reefer/ Little Reefer programs, loads of ideas here. I want more people to have fun with this hobby and have a network of enthusiasts who can count on each other: tank tours, reefers hotline, beginner walk through and house call checkups.

The run on paragraph is intentional, and no, not to show my disdain for the English language. It is my attempt at showing that above all else, I am an enthusiast first and foremost. I am very passionate about my saltwater friends and want to see MARS really recognize that this is what we ALL have in common. For that, I have chosen to dedicate my time and energies to facilitating these goals, if nothing else than the personal satisfaction only an addict amongst addicts can truly understand.

1) Paul Betito Public Relations Officcer
2) 15 years saltwater expierience
3) None
4)My hopes and goals for the club are that I hope we can further the hobby while improving our individual reefs among friends. I want to see the club being more proactive than just a once a month meeting. I also feel that it is imperative that we realize we are a part of a larger community and we treat our reefing neighbors with mutual respect and consideration.

1) Steve Ries / Webmaster
2) 15 or so Fresh and 2.5 Marine
3) I do sell DI resin online (for both aquarium and drinking applications)
4) I like to be involved in things that effect me, and what better way than serving on the board for MARS. I think we can make this incredible club even better through, more events, and exciting meetings that get people excited about the hobby they have chosen.

Kevin B. Cowan, new board member at large. Nearly 20 year aquarist, around a year as a reefer. No ties to aquarium industry, no income. Have not established goals. Accepted nomination/election as an enthusiast who wanted to "give back" by doing more than posting in a forum.

Hi I'm returning BOG from last year. I have been with MARS about
5 years. I am still learning to keep Corals, I have had some setbacks, but keep trying. I currently have a 12 gal tank with mostly soft corals- Musshrooms/Zoo's.
I Do not make any money from Keeping Saltwater aquariums.
(Can you make more money that expensives?)
I have about 25 years working in Freshwater. I am still member of Sacramento Aquarium Society. I have held all but 3 positions on their Officers / BofG. I have spawned 8 species of Freshwater fish. but stll considered novice.
Work--I am an IT Customer Support Specialist with Sacramento County.
The Future of MARS. I see that MARS needs to have greater awareness in the community. This next year I will contact the Bee and Invite their Pet reporter to come to a meeting,
(any suggestions to which meeting?, Hopefully one with Great Speaker). If anyone has children in grades 7-11 & has teacher
willing to possibly setup Saltwater Aquarium for a school year, this would be learning experince & community out reach for MARS. ( Maybe more details after I bring this up at next Board Meeting) In 2008, I hope that we can get good speakers & continue to have Fun at the Meetings.

My tag line summarizes my MARS and marine aquarium experience. In addition to being a member for about ten years I was the webmaster for about three years and the VP for about three years.

By trade I am a software architect. Here's my professional resume. As you can see, none of my income comes from the aquarium trade.

Also, the names, titles and e-mail addresses of all officers are listed on the Contact Us page (About Us\Contact Us) of the MARS website.

The responsibilities of each officer are listed in the Bylaws which are in on the
Bylaws page (About Us\Bylaws).
