Who Has Sponges in Their Tank ?

I had some Sweet sponge in my tank for like 10 months before a cyano outbreak killed them.. It seemed like the cyano went straight for the sponge and pretty much grew only on it..

akwtampa , sorry to hear that . I don't know much about keeping sponges . Was it doing well before the cyano outbreak ? Ted

IT was doing wonderfully.. had about 1 inch of nice new growth on it.. I just kept it in the path of a powerhead and that was all it seemed to require.. I'm going to try again in my new tank as this one has so much flow, I have serious doubt about another problem with cyano..

I´ve heard that those orange sponges last only few weeks or month but no much more, any one knows something about ?

another vote for do not expose to air - air gets trapped in the sponge blocking the vesicles and that section will die off

needs fine particles to eat - mine did very well on ReefBugs

also careful with light cycle - prone to algae growing on them which can also cause die off

good flow will help with both
