Who here runs Tunzes

Just curious how many people here have Tunzes in their tank?

I sold my Seio 1500's and am now looking for something to replace them with.

I'm not going to go full out with the big stream pumps and controllers and all that. But I was thinking about getting some of the new nano streams that are coming out and was curious if someone has one yet?

Not sure if I was going to get 2 of the 6025 or wait and get 2 of the 6045's? The 2 seio 1500's I had when opened all the way up just blew the sand all over the tank so I'm more leaning towards the 2 6025's for that reason.

I figured these will be much better pumps than the seio's were. Tunze has always seemed to have a very good rep, unlike RIO so i just figured these should be pretty good quality pumps.

Just curious what everyones opinion is on them. And if you have one of the new pumps please chime in I would love to hear what you think of them.

I dont know what they are like yet, I just ordered two Tunze 6025 Nano Streams for my frag tank. They are currently out of stock about everywhere, but should be back in about a week or so. I can let you know what I think of them. I also have a couple Seios in the frag tank, have not been to impressed with those.

I've got a 6025 in my 30 gallon and it rocks. It's an expensive powerhead @ $60 but it kicks some water out. In a bigger tank I would wait for the 6045's since they have 2x the flow. The 6025 pushes water just about all the way across a 36" tank. It doesnt seem like it is moving much water until you drop some food in and see it kick all the way across the tank. It really disperses the flow well. I think you would be happier with a Tunze nano rather than a Maxi Jet mod based on size difference and aesthetic value. The nanostreams are smaller at about the size of a tennis ball and have the magnetic mount already included. It's easy to mount and looks good. It's all personal preference but as for my $0.02, I like the NanoStreams.

Well, if they are anything like the big tunzes, they put out a lot of flow for very little power consumption.

Other than the fact that Tunzes are great big unreliable pieces of junk, they are a marvelous pump. I have 2 6200s on a multicontroller, and I think they are far superior to anything on the market. The flow they create is as good or better than anything currently available and their controllability is great. Unfortunately, in the past year+ I have have had a number of problems with my Tunzes. I have been without them for periods of longer than a month while waiting for Roger Vitko to repair them or send parts. In comparison, none of the my 6 Seios have broken or needed repair in that same time period. On the other hand taking the Gph of the pumps into account, the Seios are bulkier, far weaker, and their controllability is questionable (start-up).

In a perfect world I would have a tank with no pumps or bulky closed loop returns visible, and I would have an ungodly amount of maintainence free flow. For now I am stuck with Tunze, but I can't wait for something better.

i have a multicontroller+ 6100, 6000 love them.

I modded my 6100 for more flow.. i see a 15- 20% increase or so with the mod, especially if it is a 6000 powersupply attached..

i will have to post pictures...

Thanks for all the imput everyone! I would love to hear what you think when you get yours Allen.

As for the maxi mods, I have a 900 here that I was thinking about doing it to I just haven't gotten around to doing it yet. Whenever you guys want to try it let me know I'm in! :D

Even if I mod one I'll probably still look at getting something else to replace the seios I had. And these are looking in the right direction. I have been thinking about taking the sand out of the tank anyway so maybe I'll need the maxi mod and 2 of the 6045's anyway.

Is there going to be a way to dial down the flow on the bigger ones (6045,6055) like the seios can? I know the 6055 can be run on the controller but that's a little more than I want to spend

dascharisma - If you haven't had any problems with your seios you're the ONLY ONE! I had to send one of mine back 2 weeks after i got it!

SEIOS ARE PURE CRAP!!!

Thanks everyone for your imput and feel free to keep me updated for everyone that gets one of these new pumps!

:D

I'm thinking about ordering a few of the 6045's for my new project (mama oked a 40 breeder.....we ran out of room in that little 24 gal)

DITTO.

Of course I am to say prop mod. I like mine. $40 for 2000-2500GPH at 21W ain't bad. Plus I like the fact that if anythying does break cheap parts are at the hardware store not 2-3week warrenty claims.

Plus the kit from Mjmods takes like 15mins to build now so it hardly takes any DIY skill anymore.

Mod the 900 see what you think.

Well I have the tank, and the new skimmer, and some of that rock we made. Now all I need is a few new pumps, and a 400 watt MH and a luminarc reflector and I'll be good to go.

I am getting my 6025's from ReefExotics.com, they should be in next week. If you want to get any, I'd do it soon, I dont think hes getting many and they sell out fast.

I'll definitely post a review on them when they get here.

I wish the 6045's were already out to see what everyone says the flow difference is between the 6025 and the 6045!

Please do keep me updated! Good pumps for the price. Especially with the magnet mounting bracket included!
