Who is the king of high ISO?

I was just looking at a couple of Popular Photography. According to their tests my 7D and the D3s have the same noise numbers at 3200 ISO. Above that, both cameras are considered "unacceptable." That certainly doesn't mean that you can't shoot above 3200 bt I found it interesting. With it's sensor size advantage, the D3s is slightly cleaner below that 3200 level.

Isn't the D3s a $5000+ camera? You'd think it should stomp on the lowly 7D :D I bet Pop Photo has some way to spin it to make the Nikon's performance sound better though... those guys are so pro-Nikon it's almost a joke.

BTW, Doug how does the 7D IQ compare against your 5D? They look pretty close to my non-scientific eye.

It's close but you can tell the difference. With all of those pixels on a smaller sensor, they have to be closer together and smaller on the 7D. The result is a RAW file that requires more capture sharpening and higher initial NR settings than my 5D files.

I love everything else about the camera.

Here are a few high ISO examples from my 5D Mk II, I've found up to 6400 very usable.

#1 ISO 6400 - the odd lighting is from a Lite Brite toy that my older daughter was using to make a pattern for her younger sister.
