Who keeps Leathers with their sps with success?

Korrine

You could get a ticket!!
I'm setting up a 75g tank soon and would love to have a yellow leather with some sps and lps. Have you done it successfully? I'm worried about allelopathy, but plan to run carbon.

I'll add some info that may be relevant.

I'm also having a 75g sump w/1/3 of that as a fuge.
Lighting will be 2 250w 20k MH
Vortech mp10 and whatever else I throw in for flow, haven't decided yet. Pondering on getting another vortech to have 2 running.
Reef Octopus dnw 200 skimmer- I think rated for up to 400g.

Sound good or should scrap the leather idea?

Thanks :)

It's not the end of the world, just don't go over board with 50 leathers. Run some carbon keep up on your water changes it won't be an issue.

I have a huge 12x18 colt I keep in my sps dominant with out any problems.

But we don't know what size tank w/sump? use carbon? what kind of sps? Big difference between a 30g tank with a 10g sump and a 180g with a 75g sump.

Sorry, 75g display with 40g sump. No carbon. mostly acros, with all sorts of sps thrown in. over 50 diff types of acros. I also have a sinularia approx 8" diameter. It will "shed its skin" occasionally and I will toss a bag of carbon in for a few days when the sinularia does that. I forget what it is actually doing when it does this, but it is some kind of chemi warfare.

I've got a yellow finger leather and a green polyp toad stool that are both the size of a cantaloupe in a 600g system. The other 95% is SPS and its never been a problem.

Oh I have a 40 breeder with a 20L sump with fuge, I run carbon and phos remover in a reactor and have a good skimmer. Here is my leather, it is less than 2 inches away from my Granulosa.
Here it is when I got it 9/2008

I have one Aussie Crown leather and 2 Japanese toadstools in my 100 gallon with about 25 acros and a couple of monti caps.

I do run carbon as well...

i HAD a nice toadstool 12" +dia just keeps getting bigger and bigger.
i didn't run carbon and never had problems, the problem i did have was due to the growth,it kept invading my birdsnest and other sps to the point of tissue lost :( so i removed it and exchanger it for more sps :)

to bad because it was realy nice with long polyps and greenish tint.

i had a fiji yellow leather years back with no issues and they grow much slower and a nice one realy gives a sweet touch to a reef :)

steff

I keep leathers with my SPS.
You just have to keep up water changes and keep the protien skimming and carbon media changed often enough.
