I am looking for someone who can direct me to a good website or showroom where I can make a decision on what type of wood I should use on my stand. Most of my house has a chocolate type coloring and I would like to find something pretty close.

What did you use? Thanks in advance.

I would build the stand out of pine (I used 4x6's for the corners and 2x6's for the lateral pieces) then wrap the frame with birch. You can then stain it any color you'd like from there.

Just my opinion.

Wow Jeremy, there are a lot of good things on that site. I will have something to surf today at the office now.

Wow, delayed DP! Having internet connection issues this morning. Yeah, they've got loads of choices and examples.

If you are looking to match the stain "color" then I would take off a small cabinet door or drawer and take to HD or Lowes and match directly to their color swatches.

I was thinking about something like that, but the grain pattern also plays a big deal in the overall appearance. It just looks like I have a few late nights in front of me as I get off late as is.

Mark, I worked in a lumber yard for 8 years and know "a little" about wood if you need help on selection. Happy to go with you to the hardwood dealer to check out prices and options.

wood!

wood!

mark if you are looking for any type of special wood except oaks and pine i would suggust auroa wood in rancho cordova, east of sunrise near the home depot, they have all the special kinds, oaks and pine to,price?it depends, bought mahongony sheeting for cabinets,i didnt think it was to pricey for what i bought, mike

Aurora is okay, but I think Hughes (also in RC) has more of the nice woods and sometimes better prices too. My house contains thousands of dollars of wood from there.

I'd suggest that you consider mahogany for the stand. You can stain it in the dark colors, it has a nice tight grain, and it is a wood that is often used for exterior doors because of how well it handles damp weather.

If you like the lighter (honey-colored) stains then as jimmdoog suggested, birch is a good choice. Each are available in solid wood and plywood.

Don't be afraid to mix stain colors. Just stay within a brand and type of stain.

Thanks guys. I am leaning towards mahogany for my wood skin and molding. I am going to do a darker stain. I have never seen a dark oak though.

I mixed Minwax stains: 2 parts "Sedona Red" and 1 part Brown Mahogany" to get a deep reddish brown on our mahogany trim.
