Who only uses a skimmer for filtration on there SPS reef?

Just wondering how many people only use a skimmer and no other filtration!? If you do what are your thoughts on how your system runs and the health of your corals. And most importat pictures of your reef!

What other filtration do you mean? I run a skimmer, carbon sometimes, no filter socks or any particulate filters, just water and live rock.
I think my stuff does great, but I aso think lighting has at least as much to do with that as anything else.

I mean to say nothing but skimmer and pumps no carbon no filter socks no type of suspended beds or biological filtration in there sumps. Sorry I should have gone more in depth. I saw a fellow refers tank this last week and saw that other then what he had in his display all his sump had was a skimmer nothing fancy. Although his skimmer was tater for 3x his water vol. I was amazed with the success he had with his only equipment being a heater pumps and skimmer. It seams now that people are making there reefs more and more intricate but the simplest designs have results that are just as good if not better.

So no live rock or sand in the system? Sounds ugly.
If you look back 10 years things have gotten simpler.

At lot of the hobby is still somewhat unknown, which is why there are so many different ways to do everything.

No only live rock and sand in the DT. I mean to say that other then your display all you use is a skimmer and water changes.

Hopefully this clears up the confusion.

most of the people i know only have LR LS and a skimmer as their filtration. Maybe Im in the minority but I thought that recipe was the standard?

if you mean, no filter socks, no carbon, no GFO, etc then I have done it in the past. It's fine. A bit more work but works fine. Now I run all three of the above though.

I had a 29G biocube mixed reef up for three years with nothing but a remora HOB had only 2 clowns so never built up phosphates or nitrates.

You can get away with having an sps reef with only a skimmer if its a good skimmer. If the skimmer isnt that great, youll need to run gfo and carbon.

I use only a skimmer... a minimal amount or rock... sometimes GFO/GAC... and a fuge w/ macroalgae... and a little carbon dosing... nevermind...
