Who says softies can't take light?!

My softies under 800 par and growing. I've spoke to a few users who thought that my mushrooms would be melted under high lighting. Well they seem to be loving it but I'm sure color could be better under lower lighting since I do have some in the shade that are more vibrant. Just wanted to share this!

First off that par reading is above the water so your not getting that high where the corals are, par drops quite a bit under water. But softies can handle lots of par, i had softies at the top of my tank before that were running 400 watt mh's and they loved it. Its all the way you acclimate corals to the light

Obviously, I was showing the par reading at the top of the tank 9" from the fixture, my softies are only probably 6-8" below water surface. My point being, softies can take a crazy amount of light once acclimated.

This should be moved to the softies section but I'm not sure how to do it. I got so used to posting on this forum I forgot to check where I created the thread lol. Can I move it or does a mod have to?

I have two different varieties of Sarcophyton. My large 24" wide leather can take a good bit of light but keeps itself low in the tank despite the stalk being over a foot "tall". It grows out instead of up. My smaller, green polyp leathers do not do well in bright light. The edges of their top turn white and polyps do not extend or do not extend completely. Leads me to believe that certain varieties are probably less able to withstand intense lighting.

For reference, I have a Reefbreeder 48 that reaches 100% white/100% blue spectrum for a short amount of the photo period.

I do lol! From my experiance nicer softies such as neon green sinularia or neon green toadstool dont like high light. However thing like devils hand or xenia can handle higher light. Fyi- most more colorful softies and lps likes low-med light.
