Went back this weekend to many different fish store and everyone is solf out of white sand.

The only stuff they all had was brown sand or pinkish brown sand.

Who in the world would use brown sand? so ugly!

I've bought it off ebay. You just need to be wary of shipping charges.

Some online stores have free shipping over a certain amount, and I often through in heavy items like salt, sand, rocks, etc. www.marineandreef.com has free shipping over $150. I'm not sure if they carry sand.

I got all my white sand from Death Co... I mean Pet Co.... They always have it in stock here. For online suppliers I wouldn't know. If you have a Co nearby you could have them order it for you...

I bought Carribsea Arag Alive Fiji Pink from http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+10741+9805+7318&pcatid=7318.

The pics of this sand on the internet make it look pink, when I got in the bag it looked brown, when I put it in my aquarium it looks white.

The morale of my story is.... don't believe pics on the internet and be aware that the sand will look different once it is in your water and under bright lights.

WOW..... I mean weird.

Pink sand that is white under salt water tank lighting.
Can I see your tank sand picture? thanks!

I'm at work now, so I can't post any new pics, but this thread http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1414478 has some pics I took after I just put the sand and live rock in, so it's a little cloudy. And please ignore the terrible aquascaping, I have since changed it. :)

I'll post some better pics tonight if you want, I'm really happy with the sand, i think it is a very nice shade of white.
Seriously, this stuff looked brown in the bag and I was like nooooooo. I agree with you brown sand seems ugly.

Just pick up some medium grade aragonite sand. It's all basically white.

The color isn't as important as the type of sand, grain size, and depth of your sandbed.

Er, why do you clean it? Bristle worms and conchs do a good job at keeping it clean.

Also, the finer sand is good for detrivores and increasing surface area. Too coarse of a grain will make it almost impossible to keep worms or similar.

Fine sand mixes with the left over food.

I think there are 4 grades of tank beds for salt tanks.

I have the ultra fine sand. While it looks the best it is also the hardest to clean and I do not have any bristle worms as of yet.

I had a few conchs but they kept dying on me and I found out it was my fault(do water change more slowly)

Water change slower???

You should be mixing your water ahead of time matching all the params and temp, before you add it to the display.

Also, Ceriths, Nassarius, & Fighting Conch Snails will help keep your sandbed cleaned and stirred, but you should take precautions not to overfeed as well.

That Pet Place in Lancaster, PA has 30 lb bags of white sugar-sized sand for around $18 - 20 a bag most times I go up there. I've never seen it cheaper even online after shipping costs. You should consider a drive up there :)

Edit: the coarser sands are also available there for about the same price I believe.

I feed flakes once a day and I feed the pellets every other day as the clowns love the pellets. I do not treat the same amount pellets as I would flakes and just use the pellets as treats.

I did try some sushi seaweed and they all hate it and do not touch it.

One local fish store feeds just cucumbers and orange slices and they eat it like it was drug addiction.
