who told me they have this in there reef?

Hey chris it was me! I've had one in my tank for about 2 years now, and he is awesome. I do have 2 tangs also 1 yellow and 1 Kole. I've had the tangs for 3 and 4 years. I hope this info helps

yeah i wasnt sure who had it.i was thinking of getting one but am concerned about the copperband more than anything.im sure the tang will hold his own if the angel gets skippy.i was thinking of trying a copper, eibli, and a PBT or purple.does he nip at anything?if so what does he nip in your tank?

I also have one and so far so good he does not nip at any of my sps he has sometimes nip at one of my acan but not enough to bother it or keep it retracted

do you have any clams?i have 4 now,and plan on getting a few more,so this is what im really worried about.

look at what i found today.it is a eibli mimic tang.all the looks of the angel with no nipping problem.i found one locally and it is being held for me.it is real small as well, like 1" long.so my 90g will be great size for him for a while.

yeah I love those tangs I did have one for a while and I lost him and got tired of waiting for another so I bought the angel but no he hasn't bothered any of my clams

Not being critical of your selections - just wondering as to educate myself. How many large fish can you have in a small tank like a 90? I thought I was tapped out in my 75G with one Tang (Acanthurus pyroferus), three wrasses, one purple firefish and two gobies? My protein skimmer is rated for 120g and my refuge will hold 40g of water - not that I want to fill it :D. With freshwater they kind of have a rule of X amount of fish/X gallons of water - is there a somewhat rule for saltwater?

Thanks Carlos - that does help, and I know they mean full size not when you purchase - plan ahead for growth. Freshwater is something like 1"/1-2 gallons but I've kept mine below that to avoid any problems and it has worked really well for me. Do you know or anyone elso know that is for the fish now when you put corals in I would think that would added to the load and therefore would have to be calculated into the above numbers. Unless you don't feed your corals anything but I would think it still would because the digest so there is waste. Also the amount of corals and live rock for that matter - I may have a 75g tank but if it's full of corals and rock (max) it wouldn't be a good place for a tang to swim around freely, so I guess that would have to be accounted for - right?

I guess what I'm saying is that in my 75g I have 3 wasses, 2 gobies, 1 firefish, 1 tang (mimic) and one pistal shrimp. I think that tank is now maxed out I would think - to be safe and not overload. Plus now that I have the tang in - I don't think I want to take a chance - he is the boss of the 75g. I at this time have low corals but of course will be adding - moved most to new 65g.

i dont think the mimic will overload the tank.he only gets 3-4"max.the other fish in my tank are all small(less than 2")with the mimic and copperband and a naso tang i will be maxed out.plus i think a few extra fish in an sps tank is good for the corals to feed on the waste.

Yeah I was looking at your possible mimic and he is small, mine gets to like 9 - 11 inches! He is a slow grower so I'll have time to "UPGRADE"! I think within a year I won't have a problem convincing anyone that one big tank is better than three smaller tanks (65, 75 and 90)! And the way the mimic (Larry) eats - he will need a bigger tank in a year! The copperband kind of stays small also doesn't it? Might be more of a smaller space and all of them getting along and keeping them feed good so they don't nip of those nice corals you have :hammer:.

the copper gets to about 10-11" i think.the naso gets big as far as i know.the naso is just an option but im not sure if i want one yet.
