Who uses ozone?

Ok well I have had it on a week right now I started at 25% and bumped it to 50% about mid week
Here is a graph of the ORP you can see where I bumped it after it peaked on Sat. So what do you guys have your ORP set at? right now it set to shut off at 350 (hasn't gotten there yet)
Also I have notice the water is clearer.

BTW you can see my temp went up a bit on Fri You have to remember to turn the fan over the sump back on after working on it LOL
It wasn't to bad the controller is set to shut the light off if it hits 82 and it actually worked!

Anyone with a redsea unit know how to recharge the air dryer that comes with it? I think it said in the instructions but those mysteriously got tossed in the garbage.

Twist off the end with the black o-ring. Get a Pyrex bowl and carefully pour the beads into the bowl. (they bounce like crazy and will end up all over the place if you don't pour slowly and carefully)

Preheat you oven to 325F and place the bowl inside for a couple of hours. Let them cool down for a couple of hours and use a table spoon to refill the container. Spit on the black o-ring to prelubricate it and twist the cap back on. ( be careful not to spill the contents. They are a mess to clean up)

Don't ask me how I know:rolleyes:

just did mine on a convection oven. at about 250 those puppies turned dark blue in matter of five minuites. do you really think you need longer than that.... i spread mine out on some tin foil so they go more evenly.

by the way. a few always seem to escape me.

Thanks for the info on the air dryer beads... that worked perfect.

I've been running ozone for about 3 weeks and cut back a lot on cyclops-eez feeding... the combination completely got rid of my diatom problems. I tend to think it was the mess of food I was dumping in the tank, but I also think the ozone is helping. Now I'm going to slowly start feeding more cyclops-eez and see if the problem comes back.

The instruction for the Red Sea air dryer actually say to bake the beads at 230 degrees. I do this for 20 minutes and they come out nice deep blue.

I have been running my 100 MG Red Sea unit from the start of my tank (will be adding my first frags this week), and it helped immensely with preventing nuisance algae from ever starting. I don't think I would have had much of a problem anyway as my LR was cured for about 3 months before adding it to the tank by Greg Shields as he was going to use it on his new 180 which he is not setting up now because he is having a new house built.

I run it at about 30% with it set to turn on at 380 and off at 400. Seems to be doing great.

Of course the only livestock other than snails is one fish, until tomorrow :)

This thread has convinced me to bite the bullet. I just got my Aquazone 200 mg/hr unit. Now I just have to wait to set my new tank up before using it.

I think it will be good to use from the start, especially while curing my liverock. We'll see what happens.

Ditto on this. For me, I bake em at 250 for 20-30 minutes.

Alot of pages here

Alot of pages here

I read thru about 6 pages & they just don't stop!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
I have a question for people out there. Does anyone run their ozone thru a ETSS skimmer? If so how do you do it? I called etss over last week & they told me that was a bonehead way to use ozone & it should only be used thru an ozone reactor. (he said that there was not enough reaction time inside of a skimmer) The dude was quite a jerk @ etss also. I use an etss pro 800 skimmer & was looking to see if anyone is using this model or a close model to this & injecting ozone into it? I originally called etss to see if there was anything I needed to do to prep the skimmer for injecting ozone as well as how to do it. Is ther anything I should be worried about as far as making anything under my cabinet ozone safe?

Anybody using ozone with a ozone reactor. Curious if it is a better alternative than dosing into a skimmer or directly into the tank.

Also wondering if using a reactor also helps in removing the ozone "smell"

Anyone???

Anyone???

I know I jumped aboard on this thread quite late. But, with all the posts in this thread I ask. Has anyone connected the ozone generator to an etss skimmer? I have an 800 pro & I'm trying to find out if there is a sutable way to inject ozone into the twin bio tower intakes safetly. Are most of you that are using ozone using ozone reactors or other type skimmers? Please specify

I use ozone in a ETSS skimmer. Mine was one of the original 800 models that is 5 ft tall and one intake tower. I simply have the ozone safe tubing taped to the air intake piece. My ozone only comes on when the ORP falls below 395. I then run the skimmer output through a strainer that holds a bag of carbon. No problems here. The skimmer scum is quite different when ozone has been running (much clearer).

How long have you been running it that way?

How long have you been running it that way?

Has it been a long term connection? I've been told the etss skimmer can't handle the ozone. IE: It will start to fall apart & leak around the bio towers. Etss claims on their website the etss skimmers are ozone safe but when I contacted them direct they said hooking up ozone to the skimmer was a bonehead move & they would not reccomend it.

GREAT thread! Im curious as well how one would set up ozone in a Remora Pro skimmer (as it has no venturi valve) Also, does adding Ozone help with oxygen content for fish? forgive a dumb question

I put in the ozone airline with a diffuser at the end in the top where the skimmate rises. I just turned the cover over a bit so that the line will fit. I was thinking of putting the line next to the mag 3 intak. But was not sure if the ozone would mess with the pump. It works great the way I have it now.
My ORP went from 150 when I started to around 350 average now.

When the ORP is low, it can mean low oxygen content. So as the ORP rises I figure, oxygen content also rises. But IMO, if you have a skimmer, you get all the oxygen the tank needs. The ozone added oxygen is a benifit.

What are using to drive the ozone in the skimmer?

Are you using an air pump?
