I will also pick pocillopora just because of the polyps extension and number. We know polyps have the stingers.

i dunno about that. the encrusting montipora is a really fast grower in the right conditions
and will mow down quite a bit... but geez.. that pocillopora is almost like a weed itself.

i have to wonder if their would be a stalemate and both grow in their own directions and
attempt to create a DMZ.

I have two acro frags that encrusted and began to touch but stopped and maintained a very fine distance between their edges. I also had two frags of the same specie (nasuta, i think) in the same plug and one killed and encrusted the other completely. So, time will tell what happens to yours.

I have sunset monti next to my pocillopora, they are touching and there is some fighting going on,some dead tissue on both corals(very minimal),but for about 3 months now no one have the upper hand.

I had two blue millis one time that sure looked exactlyt he same to me although I got them from different places. that I mounted on the same rock. Didnt pay much atterntion and by the time I noticed one had grown almost completely over the other

Wow, should I give odds and accept bets via paypal =)

Once that poci gets as large as your fist I will give you 5 to one odds if you dont get it out of your tank within a year of it being that size or bigger you will regret it ;)

If that is a plating monti, it will win by eventually growing up and over the pocillopora.

If that is an encrusting monti, it will lose. The pocillopora will grow up and over the monti.

You have my attention, why is that?

My bet is he is alluding to the fact that Pocci's throw out all sorts of babies and they start popping up all over your tank everywhere. Never again will I put one in my tank. I've been relatively lucky with the ones I have had in the past, got them out before the damage But I've seen tanks where they have literally 20-30 colonies sprouting up all over the tank from one original colony.

What she said.

Hi Alicia!

That monti is a very fast grower, so I'd bet eventually it will overtake the poci.

I know exactly what he means. I have a softball sized poci and about 48 little babies growing everywhere!! I will bet on the monti winning in this case
