WHOAAA some new snail

I just finished re-installing my windows on my computer, so I go down stairs and look at my tank, while its doing some updates and what do I see on a rock? I see somnething small about a size of a small nut and it starts moving. So I take a closer look, the foot portion looks like that of a turbo snail and so did the front part. I dont know if there are any others but man, That was just awesome to see.


Well i hope its a baby turbo snail....

It's a Stomatella snail. Likely, Stomatella varia

hmm interesting.... I havent seen it before, but it is kinda large about a half inch or so, so it looks like your right....I wonder if there are any others in the tank.

But hey its a Reef-safe Hitchhiker....

They are a nice addition to the cleaning staff. Mine prefer the night shift.

yeah if you have a few, they breed like crazy. i saw one black stomatella in my tank a few months ago. now i have like 20 of em.

You will see little puffs of "smoke" coming out of holes in your rock from time to time, that is them breeding . We used to have a ton of them, but I think they got out-competed by the rest of our clean up crew because I don't see them as often any more (and they used to cover our glass at night). They also like to climb to the highest point on the rocks to breed. It is neat to see them climb to the top, on different "peaks", stretch out like they are standing on "tippy toe" and then you get a mass tank spawn (with 2 - 4 different stomatella spawning from different parts of your tank ). Little smoke signals going up from around your tank
