Wholesalers list in LAX area (looking for)

I work at a wholesaler that normally has 180,000 guppies and 50,000+ bettas if you need a few hundred. lol

Thank you for all the PMโ€™s and support. I have a couple good leads. Hope to make heads or tails of a couple locations this week in between schedules.

Love the idea. We spend so much money on fish that never make it having no idea how long the fish store has had those fish and if they are even eating.

Good luck on your side gig. I think providing QT'd fish would be a service. Are you planning on charging retail with no up charge for the meds and time it took? :) Sorry I had to.

I would be careful though what you post here. People get the boot quick for not being sponsors on the site.

Surprised you haven't already tbh.

Although there are people that say that they are willing to pay more for QTd fish, I don't believe there are enough that will actually do it at a profitable markup.

I need some blue star leopards and fairy wrasse.. let's go already! wholesaler trip!!! I need to get some more fish before i blow all my cash on these Bengal kitties.

I agree... I think the bigger camps are:

1. I'll chance it and just toss it in my display and pray.

2. It's only 10 bucks for a 10g tank and another 20 for a hang on back. I can qt myself for free and can be more careful about.

I used to love going to the wholesalers back in the day..... I would hit up all of them at LAX. That was also when I had a big tank that needed to be filled. It was also just fun to go and look at all the crazy things they had.

Prices used to be ridiculously cheap. Not sure how they are now (10 years later)

Valencia Pet owners supposedly used to run a large wholesale operation that they sold (or have someone else [family?] running for them now). Not sure of the specifics, but they'd be a good place to start an inquiry~~

they are the most expensive place to buy any livestock they claim a lot of things ....

good luck with the venture ...

It's a great idea and I would also pay a bit more to make sure fish are QT'd until they're eating well. Medicating is easy enough but getting wild caught fish to eat well is something else. However, like people have said, without a brick and mortar, most won't talk to you. The minimums are easy to meet but you'll be surprised that wholesalers are mostly full of bread and butter fish and will wonder where all the nice stuff is.

My friend recently got a permit to do something similar and wanted to setup an online store for fish. The wholesalers wanted nothing to do with an online store. The wholesalers that would entertain him were charging higher prices...just slightly below retail and that volume he'd have to sell to make a profit didn't make sense it him. I'm sure it can be done but my friend has yet to find a good wholesaler he can work with and is now considering some sort of brick and mortar. Albeit, he was mostly focusing on fish so you may have better luck with corals. Hope it works out...where there's a will, there's a way!

One more thing you should factor into your fee are the eventual casualties for fish that don't make it through the QT process or never end up eating for whatever reason. I didn't read through every post so not sure if someone already addressed this.
