Who's dosing vodka? And why?

You're adding close to 40ppm K+ each dose if you have 70g of water in your aquarium. NSW is roughly 400ppm.

So I need to stop and measure, soon!

Thanks!

Yes!! test everything, this goes back to the "don't dose anything you arnt testing for"
Please get some test kits and find out where you are at.

Yes mine has slowed and diminished too. It seems this is on a tank to tank basis, some folks notice this some don't.

Please do. It only takes me about 30 minutes to test for everything, which I do monthly for sure. I just finished testing my water yesterday, and found Ca and Po4 to not be where I wanted them.

So I dosed Reef Complete to bring up the Ca level.

Today, the Ca level is 400ppm.

Last night I dripped in 60 drops of Blue Life's Phosphate Control.

Today, the PO4 level is 0ppm.

Little adjustments are very easy when you test on a regular basis. Take the guesswork out of the equation, and find out what the numbers are before you make any further changes.

You want a promo picture? I did this one as well, when I was posting to my 280g thread.

I thought it would be fun to see how much I was really dosing all at once. :D

Hi got to page 4 of this post and I am interested in giving this a go on my new tank.

I have a 755ltr main and about 100ltr sump, how much would the daily does be?

Would it be possible to just work out the average amount topped up automatically from my top up system and adding the vodka to this.

Eg
Dose 15 mm per day
Evaporation 7 ltrs per day
add 15mm of vodka to every 7 ltrs of water in the top up tank.

?

To sum up. is this going to help keep Phosphate and Nitrate down?

Yep make sure you have read the article, at least once. and finish reading the other 10 pages in this thread. Make sure you have a complete understanding BEFORE you start dosing.

+2 on reading and re-reading and.... It took me 3 times before I knew what I was really doing. I blame it on Marc's thumbnails....:D

I am also experiencing the white spots on the coralline... after 1 month or so of 0 nitrates and 0 phosphates. 4 days ago I stopped dosing completely to see if this would promote coralline growth again and it is starting to plague my back glass again. So I too wonder if there is a correlation with vodka and coralline growth?????

Technically, IMO, coraline is still a form of "algae" and that is what we want to get rid of with the addition of a carbon source.

Do you guys have any asterina stars in your tanks? Because they eat coraline too, and that is what it looks like soemtimes when they eat it. Just a thought.

I think its too much of a coincidence that there are several members here (including myself) that have observed coralline turning white after starting the vodka dosing. I personally am not worried about my coralline, since starting the vodka I have totally eliminated my redslime issue (which has been plaguing my tank for months) and my hair algae is almost 100% gone. My water is 1000% clearer than it was before I started with the vodka.

I've only be able to find a couple, maybe two at the most so I do not think that is what is causing my coralline to turn.
