Shipping. Gem tangs are collected from western Indian ocean (Africa coast). it's much quicker to ship from there to France than shipping to the states.
I heard that purple tangs and other red sea fish are also much cheaper in EU. Same idea. Look at it the other way around, how much is a yellow tang or a potter angel in France?

and they all land in USA first !

I guess its easier for smaller shops up in Canada to get these ..

I would consider it but it's kinda large. Gem Tangs start getting less black an their dots become more like hyphen as they become adults.

very very few guys on the board with a gem tang. maybe a couple on the large reef section that i've seen in pics..

Or you can buy like 40 purple tangs with ich. Would look pretty similar

500-600€ that could be the price some 5-6 years back.....
I don't think anyone is selling Gem tang in France at the moment...

Isn't that why they call it a "Gem" tang?

I was originally planning on getting one but then I realized that 99.99999% of the world would look at my tank and say" hey it's Dori!" And id be like" yeah but look at this gem tang, bells flasher wrasse, lineatus, etc". And they'd say "yeah, but its DORI. Ooooh, and nemo!" So no$500+ fish for me

I've seen a local tank that has 2 in it. Very nice with a very hefty price tag. No thanks. I wonder if you get the 14 day guarantee.
