Wow haven't seen zo's in a while that made me stop and take a double take. So who's got these?

they are OK :) these, plus the blue'ish ones with the red/orange skirt all came out at the same time, first on the atlantis aquarium (cali) website for about $10/polyp.

but the exact same ones have been popping up on internet sites and LFS's all across the country.

my guess, is some diving/collecting company came across a HUGE reef flat with literally tens of thousands of these 2-3 kinds of zoas all living together. and from the wholesaler, got shipped all across the country, not just to atlantis.

they are still cool though. ;)

quoting from the owner of one of a very respectable LFS, and the top seller of deltec products......claims that his store uses the same wholesaler as AA in cali does. may or may not be true, but i'm sure is plausible that other stores/companies use the same wholesaler, get the same stuff as AA in cali does.

I know that one of the LFS here that I deal with on a weekly basis is getting the same stuff as Sharkys reef as far as zoanthids go anyway.

SURF, I checked Atlantis's site and didn't see any there. Where are they popping up at? I've looked on most of the sponsors sites here on RC and haven't been able to find any. The photo I started with was a borrowed photograph from Fragglereef. I just wanted to see some other peoples photos of the same zo. I am looking to get some if I can find them. I also was wondering about placement in the tank, with such a unique color.

I'm down in the middle of Socal where most of the goods are and haven't seen any down here. Maybe you could forward me a site that does have them. I am pretty sure that they are on the rarer side. I've never seen any in all of my small 5 years of reefing.

i recently noticed they took them down also. but that was the first place they popped up at. i remember everyone on the zoa forum raving about them, but they wanted $10/polyp. my guess is that they completely sold out (hard to beleive b/c they constantly keep a best seller to frag for later), or they realized they couldnt charge that much considering how common they are being shipped out across the country from their whole sale company.

ive seen them from a couple of internet sites selling zoas, but only like 2-3 maybe, dont remember the sites as other people posted the links about a month (or two) ago.

other pics i've seen were people showing the colonies they got for their LFS. i'm talking colonies of 30 or more for about $30-$50 (something like that).

maybe someone else here can help us out with a link to a previous thread

Does anyone know the care for these? My friend has a few of these, but they all lost their color within a week. He tried under PC and metal halide, nothing helped. They are huge now though, the head is nickel size.

Oh thanks Surf. The are beauties even if they have been around for a while.
.:rolleye1:

they are beauties, just not "OMG!! RARE!! $$$" why ya rollin your eyes when ya got some cool zoas? (or palys, whatever) ;)

all that matters is that if you like it, and it looks good in your tank. :) it doesn't matter how many other people do or do not have it.

Funny... they look awesome, but they're not rare and exclusive... "darn it!" :)

Yep, it just matters if you like them. Fwiw, Joleen at Atlantis said the orange skirted purple ones were her favorite zoas out of all the ones in the whole store :)

No one knows how to maintain their color? It was under both metal halide and powercompact and just faded. Metal halide it would barely open up, under PC it went to nickel size.

like i said before, what kind of MH lights were they under? and what kind of MH lights are they under now? what kind of PC's?

a color temperature would be helpful. obviously stuff is not gonna look the same under 10k as it does under 20k.

if the water quality isnt good, nothing will look good. you really need to supply more information rather than asking everyone for a magic cure.

I just picked up some of these. The store I go to probably gets them from the same place as atlantis, its either a caribean or fiji distributer (my guess). They are quite amazing zoas! They are on a branching type of rock, looks like a dead SPS piece. What kind of rock is yours on?

yeah, the guy i know who got his from AA in cali, all of his were also on some sort of small coral skeleton or a very thin looking tonga rock. i didnt take a close notice, never thought about looking at the rock to see if it was similar.
