Hi everyone,

I guess I'm not going to be able to make it this year, as much as I am looking forward to it. I broke my hip last week and can not put any weight on it for 10-12 weeks:(.

However, on the bright side, there is a funny part to this story that only my fellow reefers can appreciate.

After I fell, I told my husband that I thought it would be fine in a few hours. He gets the yellow pages to go out and buy me some crutches. Of course, I said, "Oh no, please just make me a walking stick out of 1 1/2" pvc pipe". He goes out to the garage and then comes back to ask where all the T's and elbows are?? Of course, I'd returned all the good unused ones to HD & Lowes, so I told him to use some of the left over pieces. I think I ended up with part of an slightly used cutoff Durso standpipe as the elbow to the walking stick. It had a few extra connectors as I had modified it a few times it but was kinda neat as you could still see the algae in the end:).

After a call to our doctor at home to see if we could wait until morning, 2 pain pills and a muscle relaxer, he was able to lift me into the bed. I thought I'd just "cowboy up"!!. However, after a miserable night I knew by the next morning that it wasn't good. Turns out that I broke my hip in two places and they ended up putting a plate and 3 bolts in the next day. They didn't let me use my fancy walking stick (well, it was more of a hopping stick!) once they took the x-rays.

Of course, I didn't do it riding or anything fun. I actually just tripped on a dog bed while running through the house. My feet flew up and I landed smack on my side directly on my hip.

I was really looking forward to CFM as I loved it last year and I was really looking forward to seeing you all again.

However, I'll be online reading the threads and looking at all the great photos of all the beautiful corals you all will be selling and trading:)!

Have a Fun Day Sunday!

I really did consider the wheelchair idea:)!! However, it's still too sore to tolerate the drive and I still tire easily. But don't think I haven't been thinking about that idea all week. I guess my post today was my final realization that as much as I'd love to attend, wheelchair and all, it really is too soon.

Joyce you are one tough chick! First off...broken hip+400 crazy reefers= no fun and second, there will be more events this year. The wheelchair is an idea but I remembered last year and the year before that baby strollers were a tight squeeze.

You just need to rest and heal....just thinking about a broken hip is making me squeamish. Hope you feel better!=)

Thanks Jen! Yes, I also remember how crowded it was last year. I'll try to make the upcoming events in OC this year.

Very nice boat! We recently sold our Carver as we are busy now with the new home building process and you can't let a nice boat like that just sit and not be used.

Your photo reminds me of all the great trips we took to Catalina on it!!

Here's a quick photo of ours (taken right after we left the dock and we hadn't pulled up the bumpers yet)

And here's another one of when we were returning from Catalina and found over 300 dolphins that swam with us and totally surrounded us:

Thanks! We have lots more photos that are better, however, I only have this one on the computer I am using today.

As we were going from Catalina back to Marina Del Rey, my husband saw the ocean just rolling in the distance. The water looked all choppy and we were boating in good clear water. He knew immediately that it was a large pod. They were all around the boat and I got to see them within inches off the rear swim platform. As we slowly motored around, they raced with us and seemed to play with the boat.

It's something we'll always remember. In fact, my husband gave me a dolphin mounted on a plaque with the date and a saying about us and 300 friends on it a week or two later.
