i have had t5 hos on my tank for about a month now and want to know how many people out there are using t5s keeping sps corals, and how the growth rate is compared to MH, and just the difference between the two lights with keeping sps corals.. the reason why im asking is because ive herd people not dare to try to keep an sps under t5s and ive herd seen sps dominated tanks under t5s?! any comments would be apperciated thanks :)

I am a die hard MH guy, but I was @ Pazazz's house a couple weeks ago and all he uses is T5s and his colors and growth are truly unbelievable! He has the nicest Pink Lemonade I have ever saw!!!!!
It was so nice I refused to leave until he hooked me up w/ a frag LOL.
Now, I have been debating going to all T5s myself:strooper:

HAHA.. i would love to see his tank.. i also love the look of the t5s....... but i cant rele say that cause i havent had mh yet lol, im tempted to try sps coral in my tank, but wasnt rele sure of doing it yet.. and im already gettin good insperation of gettin a frag soon

i use to run 2 250w halides now i run 8 54watt t-5s and i am very happy with the lighting, i am getting great color in my sps and a little slower growth due to i also was running 10k xms so i new that the growth was going to slow down a bit. imo up to now everything is doing great and i would not go back to halides with the results i am getting.

T5's over an SPS tank? No way, it cant be done! :p

I have used MH in the past and will never go back. The coloration and growth with T5 has been much better. More info on my thoughts about MH vs T5 HERE

100% T5

stagcrazy- awsome thanks for the feed back and info

sonny- WOW!!! thanks for the link.. your tank looks amazing, and so healthy thanks for sharing

off topic question i was curious about.. what would you say would be the biggest thing to keep up with having sps corals in your tank.. im very encouraged to try an sps coral now, so what else should i do on top of having lps?? like dosing? i do %10 water changes every week and dose iodide once a week, Strontium and Molybdenum every 4 days, live phytoplankton every other day... light are on for like 5-6 hours a day, sometimes longer depending on how long i want to stare at it lol.. i think thats it, thanks for any and all help :)

Heres mine,
ATI PM.
I would never go back to MH.
My colors and growth have improved in just two weeks.

Your system keeps look better and better!

I'm running T5s on an SPS tank for almost 1 year now. I got tired of high temps with MH and didn't want to use a chiller. The color is better, but growth is slower, so I'm happy with T5s.

I, along with the others, run only T5s on my 20H. Will never go back to MH either as the color options and growth are close to unmatched.

Just a couple quick shots of the tank:

Not much different form LPS other than:

-More light required
-Cleaner water(lower Po4 and No3)
-Increased flow
-Increased dosing of CA and ALK
-Increased stability(keep your hands out of the tank!)
-Good nutrient export(skimmer,bacteria,refugium, etc)

I'm sure some people can add a few more but these will get you on the right foot.....

cool thanks alot sonny i rele appreicate it.. i will have a sump\refugium on it soon, so once i get that on ill try some sps.. thanks for info

I think I may ditch my halides and go T5's....would there be any kind of acclimation period?? I currently run 3x250w SE Reeflux 12k in lumenbright minis.

I started out using T5 on my first tank when most were using MH. It was said I couldn't keep clams on the sand bed and I could. Had a nova extreme fixture which is barely much compared to the higher end units like aquactinics and ATI. My second tank I put in halides and disliked them for the year I had them. Now I just got some T5s back.

I've used both and won't go back to MH.

As for an acclimation period tas5tas, I had 250w halides and I'm running them 4 hours per day for a few days and then slowly increasing the time they're on in a period of about two weeks.
