Re: why arent there more people wanting octopus , also ?'s about octopets

to get back to the question at hand, I personally don't have one b/c of the short lifespan.

I'd love to keep an octopus or cuttlefish, but then I'd be buying a new one every year.

If they lived three years, I'd go for it----5 would be even better.... but then again, with their type of intelligence, a 5-year old octopus might take over the world:lol:

I do not know of anyone keeping one at home. But you are right they require a VERY large aquarium. Mebbe one day I can tell about it. LOL

Sure, I'll put that tank right next to my black-tip shark tank in the basement - oh wait, then there wouldn't be any basement left....

i'm sure anyone who can afford a tank the size to keep it in wouldnt have a problem buying the food to feed it either ;) $100 a month should about cover it.

I spend that much on my reef. I do have the ocean that I catch alot of my foods from, so that may work. Just where to put that tank, or what room to convert into one??? LOL

Hay, i never said i didnt have any luck...I had my local caught one for 15 months and my blue ring for 10 mths...They are the smartest marine animals i have ever seen...like i said at times i think they actually are bored.....I have had a ton of fun with them, many many fights with my algae scraper that he thought he needed more than me!!! he has spit water in my eye a few times....the blue ring had a ton of shells piled up in his cave, good luck trying to get them out!!!

You can't get an octo out of anything that it does not want to move from. ;)

I agreee about their intellegence, and I believe only those that want to spent AT LEAST a few minutes EACH day playing with them should ever consider it!

But with tons of interaction, and care, I promise I do not have a bored octo. He is actually playing with legos, and his smurf right now. It like having a constant 2 year old, and you must be prepared for it.

Hmmmm, has it built anything interesting yet? like a miniature Eiffel Tower, or maybe a model of a speed boat?

nope he just likes swimming around with them, but smurfs really do not make a good effiel tower LOL

Toys are a good idea for any octo. However, as far as other marine life not really much! Mebbe a starfish and urchin. But you have to make sure the star is smaller and the urchin is of the pencil tip variety, not sharp!!
