Why can't I keep Acros and Millies

Found the problem. Got red bugs. :(

Today was my day off so I sat in front of the tank and looked at the acro for a while and found tiny dots moving on it.

API kh test is just as good as any other test you'll find. I have compared it to elos and salifert.

consistency from bottle to bottel is not there.

it is tried and true. you will need to do alot more experiments to overcome all other wrong readings :)

Mille's are temperature sensitive. If you get slow die off (tn) try lowering your tank temp. Also a common mistake is low salinity.

If you can get them out do a bayer dip rather than interceptor. You'll kill all your micro fauna, hermits, snails, etc..

After I found the red bugs, Ive done the dips with coral rx and then melafix with great success. No more signs off red bugs so far. and the Acros now have polyps extensions. The interceptor is just to treat the entire tank in case the red bugs are somewhere else and also peace of mind.

Try the Bayer dip. It will stun the aefw better then the coral rx. Just be sure to rinse the coral pretty good with sw before you put it back in. I will never use anything else again.

Right CoralRX never worked on me with Red Bugs though some claim it did. The only proven nuke against them is interceptor. I used it with 100% success. I tried Bayer dip with no success most likely due to lack of knowledge about what exact product to use and proper dosage. And my snails survived interceptor and even crabs lived through. Pods population also were not instinct and I saw tons of pods few weeks later red bugs where all DEAD though!

Just few more notes about CoralRx. I took it seriously I wanted it to work. I tried dosage almost x5 times of recommended I used microscope to observe RB and though they were not moving a lot (so some sort of discomfort for sure) they were still alive and attached to the corals. I used 'regular' CoralRx not concentrate.

The dip did not work. Saw red bugs again on my acros.

You will need to do the dip several times. The rb's could be on your rockwork or eggs that haven't hatched yet. The Bayer dip will kill the rb instantly but not the eggs.Use a white container and you'll see them if they are there. its a good method to use and on some coral you will see better color in them.

I would take advice from the guy talking about RB eggs with caution... Very little research on the subject will reveal that RB don't lay eggs.

Your confusing red bugs with AEFWs.

How many times have you tried Acros? What was the source of them and in what form? LFS? Private person? Fresh Cut? Healed? How did you put them in the tank, i.e. left on frag mount or removed and glued in place? Your parameters seem good and really, adjusting any of them up or down just a tad is not going to do anything. The important thing is to keep them stable at a given level. Were your parameters stable when you had problems with them? Even a single instance of fluctuation can RTN a piece, especially if they are new to your system. Lastly, all Acroporas are not equal. Some can be tough as nails while others seem to RTN if you look at them funny while passing by the tank.

Third time.

What was the source of them and in what form? LFS? Private person? Fresh Cut? Healed?

Healed. Couple from LFS and couple from Private.

How did you put them in the tank, i.e. left on frag mount or removed and glued in place?

Temp acclimation, then drip acclimation, then Coral RX dip.

Left on frag mount and the mount is glued on rocks.

When I got my first acro, it RTN overnight. Didn't run GFO at the time and the phosphate was at 0.25ppm PO4 and Alkalinity was at 12dkh. However, the Milli got great polyps extension. two or three months later, the Milly started STN. By that time, I got the parameters where they needed to be 0.02ppm phosphate and 8-9 dkh Alk.

I just got a cheap acro frag recently and it is doing well so far with PE but noticed red bugs.
