I am using Seachems Cupramine for Ich treatment, all is good but I cant seem to get my API copper test to show a result to test my levels. There is no color change in the test sample. I am hesitant to add more copper without knowing my levels. Has anyone had this problem?

Hmmmmm, I have used API and seachem to test cupramine levels and both have worked just fine. However, I would buy seachems test kit because they state it is designed specifically for cupramine.

I would actually buy the red sea then the salifert then the seachem. The seachem test kit is next to impossible to tell the diffrence between the blues.

i actually did the same thing you did. the api is to vague. thats why you cant read it.

i used the seachem and it works nicly. im finishing up the treatment in the next week and it does really well when you use the cupramine and the test kit for it together lol

API is very difficult to read you have to look down into the vial and its readings are not accurate I had a mishap with it and it caused me to lose a few fish because of overdose, I ordered the seachem kit and was shocked how far off my api was, imo Seachem needs to do a better job at telling users which test kit to use

The API kit most likely isn't off, it just lacks the low range resolution required for dosing cupramine and ionic copper. It's a multi-use test that registers both chelated and ionic copper, so it will read significantly higher levels of copper in the event you use chelated copper. Ionic copper should be dosed to around 0.3, cupramine 0.5 and chelated around 1.0, as such, the broader the range between the min and max, the more resolution you loose.

At the risk of sounding like a smart *** the cupramine bottle does say to test with the Seachem copper kit.....you can't really expect them to suggest using a test kit from another manufacturer.

use the seachem kit...
I hope someone comes out with a good colorimeter for copper...we need exact testing...considering that there is a fine line between therapeutic and lethal..
