Why do I have cyano?

I have cyano in my 80g with 40b sump. All I have is a melanurus and swallowtail angel in there. Running nopox and carbon. I just decided im going to ween off of nopox because I suspect that may be the case. I just dont have enough nitrate or phosphate to feed cyano.

Maybe try increasing the flow or make sure your aquascape doesn't provide dead spots.

Yeah ive got so much flow in there, that im unable to turn it up anymore. light cycle was cut to 8 hours seems to do nothing.

It's pretty common to see a cyano bloom when you dose carbon (incl. nopox). Kinda makes sense since it's a bacteria too. It doesn't need nitrate, but phos will encourage it. You may have localized high phos areas, like in the sand etc. Besides backing off on the carbon sources and light, and increased flow and gfo; skimming wet can help. Maybe try that.
