Big debate on this.

On one hand it can be used to catch free floating particles and excess foods or things in the water column.

Others say once these items are caught they start to decay in the filter sock and the constant beating fom the drain water pulverizes the matter into disolved solids - poluting your water.

Personally I have stopped using them.

If you have a fuge, and you have critters, and you have fish, who cares where the food circulates? That's my opinion.

Good if adding sand for a boost, or attacking nuisance algae off the rocks, or rearranging rocks, etc. Otherwise, avoid.

All you need to get rid of the bubbles is one of these. Of course you have to size it to the amount of return water you have.

That's pretty cool. I've never seen a bubble tower like that, care to give an explanation?

thx for the feedback. Please explain your bubble tower. It looks very interesteing. I didn't know of anything to rid bubbles except for sump baffles or filter socks.

I got rid of the bubbles by building a rock barrier in front of my sump's bulkhead intake, and a piece of eggcrate at the water line above the intake. No more bubbles.

I have since laid? lain? I now have a piece of eggcrate across the top of those rocks, held down with a little piece of rock rubble.

I use a 250 micron sock for almost 2.5years...it gets changed about every 3 months......
