Why do my False Percs sleep in the top corner of the tank?

When the light is on, they swim around the tank and rub all over the candy cane corals (even though I bought them a very nice GBT that they won't even go to) and they seem so cheerful. When the light goes out, they both go straight to the same front left corner at the very top of the tank, their fins even come out of the water. They swim sideways and upsidedown and stay right there in that corner all night. Is there something wrong with them?

The mated pair I had before always stayed in their sebea anemone. My sebea ended up bleached and is now the size of a quarter (1.5 years later) and the clown fish that I liked so much died after a very stressful move and a bad case of ick last November.

Now I'm stuck with these weirdos. They sleep up there in the corner, they won't go to their bubble-tip anemone I bought for them about 6 weeks ago, and they swim strangely. They wool all over the candy canes, like they're an anemone, and the male dances around like crazy, shaking very rapidly, like he's scrathing on the top side of the rock where the GBT is. I have never seen them even touch the anemone though. The old pair I had used to lay eggs, and the male would dance like that over the eggs to keep them clean and happy, but these crazy clowns haven't laid any eggs. He looks like he's trying to rub off the coraline algea.

Any thoughts?

My clowns do this as well. The go between the front right and back right corners. They have done this since day one back in Feb, and I can even stick my hand in at night and they don't care. I think they are just retarded, goes along with the ones deformed top fin (it's split in one area, always has been).

Anyway, maybe they feel safe there. Mine don't host anything, I tried a nem once and they had no interest, they ignore the frog spawn, torch coral and everything else in there. Caught them rubbing on the overflow though in attempt to host it, was funny.

They might just be nuts like mine :). I wouldn't worry unless they start acting completely nuts. I thought mine were dead the first time!

They're just being clownfish. I've caught my A. Occ feeding my overflow box before. I've read about them hosting powerheads, veggie clips, and mag floats.

My True percs do this as well. When I first got them I thought they were both going to die the first night. Now when my lights go out they swim right up to the top right hand corner and go to sleep just as you describe.

I agree be nice!

All fish have their own personallity. These ones are just a liiiiitle bit weirder than others:D

Someone on the forum a few days ago metioned they succeded hosting their BTA w/ percs by puting them in a hamster ball for a few days. Might be something to try.

Maybe they are related to mine. Going on almost 2 years they still do this.

Look great during the day.

My clowns did this for months! And all the sudden one day it was like a light bulb came on over their head... Mabe i can sleep in that anemone over there... To this day thats where they sleep. I must of had them for about 4 months before they got the right idea. I would worrie about it.
Some one once told me that tank raised clown are more prone to this because they dont have a nautral enemy. Ive even herd of having a friend come over and try to catch them with there hands so that the clown feel that there is an enemy and then they will host in something so that they feel safe... i didnt try this but thats what i heard... believe what you want

Just dont give up on them quite yet theyll host something when thier good and ready :)

i recently got 2 baby ocellaris for my kids tank and they will only go to their bta during daytime.but once the light goes off...it's up to the tank we go.:rolleye1: these guys are just to funny.

For the first time ever tonight I saw the male actually touching one corner of the anemone, like he was trying it on for size! Maybe they're coming around!

It is reassuring to hear (and see) that other people's clowns do the same silly stuff. The pair I had before still had a cute disposition, but they seemed more sensible. :)

My percs do that too, have done it since I set up the tank in my house. I can reach my hand in the back of the tank and pet them if I want to. They sleep on their sides up against the flex returns.
They had a bubbletip and they wouldn't go in it.
Now they have had an H Crispa for more than a year and still won't host. It's a shame too, because the nem is about 14 - 16 inches across and ridiculously healthy, just ripe for a clownfish to love it.

Will they ever figure out that they're supposed to go to the anemone?
If I remember correctly, A. Ocellaris do not naturally host H. Crispa...assuming your sebae is a H. Crispa. If you provided your Ocellaris a natural host anemone they would be hosting it within a matter of seconds/minutes. ;)

I guess he overheard you talking bad about him ;). My green mandarin is a little retraded too now that I think about it. The clowns might sleep in the corner, but nothing can get them there. This mandarin just picks a nice comfy spot in the middle of the sandbed, puts his thing up, and goes to bed. At least he wakes up now when the crabs walk over him!
It's even scarier because he turns a whitish color, almost dead looking.

55semi,
Reefgirlsara (who is from Florida) has a GBT for her occellaris. She used to have a sebae for a different clownfish that she had.
I (sarahkucera, a totally different sarah from Chicago) have an H Crispa for my true percs. H Crispa is a natural host for true percs. :)

clown's will host just about anything.my clowns are being hosted by a pink haitian.they also do the same with my frogspawn, xenias and bta.
